I seem to remember that Jimmy threw it out of bounds deep in the North Carolina red zone on fourth down as time was about to expire in '76.

That was my freshman year. The Gator offense was really exciting that year despite some boneheaded moments. First play from scrimmage at my first home game was an option pitch to Willie Wilder for a 92 yard TD. Was a lot of big offensive plays throughout the season.

Was that the MSU game? I was there with a buddy and came away thinking that the 34-30, back and forth win that day was the best game I had seen in person in my young life. What a great game that was.

Sure was. Loved the way Fisher ran the triple option out of the bone, especially the broken bone with Chandler and Gaffney out wide.

He's the one and was a very good baseball player. If you looked back you'd find he set all kinds of state high school passing records in Lakeland. Yes,...he was the 4th down throw vs Ole Miss.

I was still in high school but went to a few games that year. Not quite the runner LeCount was or the passer Fisher was but Don executed the triple option as well as anyone from that era. Loved seeing him fake the handoff to Dubose and then sprint towards the sideline before cutting upfield or pitching to the Tony Green. I think everyone in that backfield was a member of A Phi A.

He was a magician at handling the ball and a pretty darned effective passer for that era as well.

I loved watching him roll out on a run and just as he was being hit the ball would come out to the pitch guy on the outside. Damn shame Doug Dickey wasted all the talent we had. Tony Green, Nat Moore, Wes Chandler…
