My son wanted to see how far he could drink around the world at Epcot for his 21 B day recently, really hasn't changed much in the last 20 years.

FWIW, Disney sold over 100K annual passes over the weekend  Evidently someone wants to go.

Perhaps, but who should decide this? Should DeSantis close Florida 7-Elevens because he doesn’t like slurpees? One of the great things about the US is that if a commodity really does suck ass, you don’t have to do anything about it. It will just go away on its own.

You don’t really think it’s the state’s duty to make staff or program decisions for Disney do you?

I really don’t think the govt should be doing anything except going away. You’re right.
Ron sucks. I hoping Nikki Haley can stick.

I just disembarked a Disney cruise and will probably go to Epcot this weekend. I keep reading about how much "Disney sucks", "go woke, go broke", "things aren't the same" yet the parks and ships are full and they have record profits

Not arguing one way or the other but disney isn't killing stock wise. In fact if you invested money 5 years ago you are down on your investment. Not exactly record breaking.

The stock market sucks right now and there isn't anyone that's doing really well. However, corporate profits in general have doubled in those same 5 years. Disney has seen great profits recently

At least until appeal to the 11th Circuit. DeSantis all but states that he has impermissible ex parte communications with the judges there, often saying that he is certain what the result will be before it is published. I don't know any other way to interpret his continual statements that way.

But Walker has a way of putting the type of reasoning and fact-finding in their which makes it far more difficult and the hackery more obvious when they are reversing him

LOL. Yes the stock market sucks right now. But your point is way off. I'll throw a few examples of some 5 year stock prices to compare to DIS stock. Disney stock has been brutal over this stretch by any metric.

Disney is packed due to Covid build up demand. I’m telling you, it ain’t the same place. We’ve been to all the parks and the nice restaurants.
We know how that place works.
Maybe the cruise line is doing well, I can’t speak to that.

I agree with your larger point about Disney as a private corporation making decisions to make their audience.

But in terms of the artistic failure of the most recent trilogy, especially the last entry, the problem was not with a black storm trooper and a female Jedi. And those were just diversity picks. That was normal storytelling, especially if you would follow the Extended Universe, which was no longer canonical which they stated they drew a lot of inspiration from. And Kylo Ren was an excellent character.

Again, even if they wanted to make lousy choices for diversity, that's their right, especially in terms of the market. But if anything, they did just the opposite. They did not support John Boyega when he was attacked online and reduced his arc, and wrote out Rose in the finale, all in response to the insecure fan boys. And the finale was the worst of the three parts.

Of course, big part of that failure was also the untimely death of Carrie Fisher, who is supposed to be the focus of the third part of the trilogy

I could go on and on. My daughter has written thousands of words on this issue. But enough said.

One other thing. other thing. One Rian Johnson has done just fine since. I think that is telling.

Well written 77 page complaint that liberally quotes DeSantis and others public statements. Just like I predicted upthread; the suit would be filed after the comprehensive plan, contracts and restrictive covenants were voided. Disney says that they did everything to avoid a lawsuit.

Desantis had so many off ramps to avoid this while declaring victory. He just couldn’t let it go

That's only because of their streaming division that the previous CEO screwed up. Their balance sheet under him was atrocious. If you look at everything else, other than a couple Pixar films, they are doing very strong in all theme parks, cruise lines, and the likes of Avatar 2 ($2.3B), Hocus Pocus 2 (huge streaming numbers for a sequel 30 years later) etc.

2022 had Disney with 10 of the top 15 streaming movies in the world. The operating costs of Disney+, thanks to Chapek's financial mishandling, is what hurt and is holding their stock down. Multiple agencies now have them as a strong buy thanks to Iger. Q1 2023 saw them make $23.5B and it is the 3rd quarter in a row and 4th out of 5 with over $20B. Q1 2023 saw them make $3B more than Q1 2020, the last one before the shutdowns.

And obviously the ongoing back and forth with Desantis hasn't helped because you can see where their stock seesaws with each piece of info comes out.
