It already is a live option, and a better option than voucher schooling. Parents who homeschool should also be given a stipend to purchase supplies only.

Will Florida moms increasingly yank their kids out of schools so they can herd them into hormone therapy ?

We can't be certain that DeS even believes in the policy. It may be a mere matter of perception, as in the desire to be perceived as being tough on crime.

A truly sad development about fear in our state. I am on my parish's Social Justice Committee (link below). We have some USF employees on the committee who asked us to delete their USF email address from our contacts so that we would not inadvertently email them something involving the committee to the USF address, because it is Catholic and DEI. They feared it would get them in trouble. This is the state we live in.

Totally agree, and I hate it for many of my friends and family instate that feel like they’re losing representation. But at some point Florida Dems and moderates need to find a foothold and build their movement. No amount of outside money or effort will make up for the instate incompetence and apathy. Right now it looks a lot like trying to prop up a democratic government in Afghanistan or Egypt. Nationally, the Dems don’t need Florida any more and the strategic decision is to not throw good money after bad.

I do love how everyone complains about FL yet we have people moving here left and right. Love NY's awesome Gov encouraging it and then realizing it isn't a good thing LOL. Is FL perfect? Far from it. Has DeSantis done some things I disagree with? Absolutely. Would I move to NY? No F'ing way.

doctors and teachers are leaving. this is the result of the culture war and the war on women. I know my one daughter will never live in Florida. 3.9 in kinesiology at UF, doing clinicals in physical therapy at top intl PT school in London, will be qualified to work internationally with amputee and new robotic extensions, would never live in Florida with these rules. Second daughter with psychology degree who works with autistic kids at a private clinic also looking to leave state with her fiancee who is full time publix butcher and part time coder. These doctors, nurses, therapists, butchers, coders, teachers are the very people needed to service our society and we are running them out to support some sort of stupid culture war and celebrating them leaving. goooo team

I just heard about this from an FT journalist being interviewed. Think I’m late to this. He actually channelled Churchill against the Nazis in the battle against the “Woke.”. It’s stupid and silly, but it’s also scary in terms of their mindset, and how they justify their abuses of power. They think they are in an existential war, without realizing they are the Nazis

except the US Constitution was written to prevent this very sort of thing. Our legislative and judiciary branches have ceded too much authority to the executive branch on our slide to authoritarianism. this is bigger than don't say gay, it is a failure of our system of checks and balances.

how will the "winning" side feel when their wives cannot find an obgyn and their parents can't get therapy for their hip replacements and their kids are being taught by unlicensed. untrained educators?

People are moving to Florida because it’s warm, and a lot of boomers are at retirement age. They want to get away from the northern winters. They say it’s because Florida’s a low tax state, but the lack of a state income tax is made up for in much higher property taxes, and in HOA fees making the tax thing a wash.

Not to mention flood ins and homeowners ins. Housing cost especially rent vs income in ridiculous. I have a 1200 sq ft rental prop that gets 4400 in rent could probably get more

Well said. The one thing that seems most clear to me about the constitution is that is meant to protect people from being forced to take on the beliefs of others, but it seems many actually wouldn’t mind that state of affairs as long as they believe their side will be doing the forcing.

Eh, it will all shake out in the end, Desantis is done. If Floridians are that unhappy with the state of affairs, a decent candidate will emerge and it will be corrected through the ballot box. I agree though if you don't like it here, move somewhere else...sounds like Cali is the perfect place for most here in THFSG.

florida property taxes are not high compared to other states but all these new developments with no save our homes protections are making the state flush with cash.
if you buy into a CDD or special district that adds another layer of taxation, HOA fees are generally based on level of amenity you are willing to pay for. Some low in simple neighborhoods, some very high with some upscale amenity options. Both are debt that you are choosing to spend and have nothing to do with taxes even if CDD fees do show on your tax bill. Don't buy in a CDD or special district if you want lower taxes is my suggestion

Well according to the state of Florida we have one of the highest property taxes in the nation.

    Property Tax
Though the state government does not collect any property taxes, local governments receive much of their funding through these taxes. These rates are assessed at the local level and can vary by county, and they are based on the value of the property. Property taxes in Florida are some of the highest in the country, although there are several exemptions to try to lighten the load on some Floridians.”
