Just couldn't quite pull it off. Hate to get swept, but the Gamecocks are really good and simply outplayed us. Now we just need to beat UNF Tuesday and then sweep Missouri next weekend.
Well, this weekend sucked. Done is done. Gemacht ist gemacht, as the Germans say. What say we kick the ever-loving hell out of UNF on Tuesday, sweep Missouri next weekend and get the hell over it? (2017 team was swept @ Auburn and they won the whole damn thing).
It’s hard to get a grip on going from playing solid baseball to watching the team become so lethargic three games in a row.
Tough series guys. Obviously, as a South Carolina fan I haven’t this team play this well since the championship years (2010, 11) I believe a big difference this year is having Monte Lee back as associate head coach after the managerial job at Clemson didn’t work out. We seem to be playing better even with injuries mounting up. Ethan Petry obviously is a stud and I don’t know how UF missed recruiting this guy, unless he just wanted to go out of state. good luck moving forward. SC athletics is having a pretty solid year.
Agree, but I give a lot of the credit to their pitching staff. They pretty much controlled the series.
We pretty much played into their hands by keeping ourselves in pitcher’s counts when we were “hitting”….
Couple of folks here have noted the 2017 team swept by Auburn in the opening SEC series but I don't see how the two teams compare- if they do, tell me where I'm wrong. That team had a starting rotation of Faedo, Singer and Kowar with Byrne about to establish himself as a premier closer and late in the season- Dyson pitching strong. You also had guys like India, Guthrie and Mike Rivera- gutsy clutch players who would get the big hit or make highlight reel fielding plays. The 2017 team won with great pitching and defense and clutch hitting. With a team ERA of 3.45 for the year. See the difference? Pitching! USCe has it even with one of their weekend guys injured.
Evans now batting .080 in 50 at bats in SEC. Unbelievable he stays in lineup. He has a terrible hitch in his swing.
That 2017 was not the greatest of all Florida teams as far as sheer talent goes, but we did have superior pitching and defense and bunch of grinders on offense who just seems to get the big hits at the right time. We tied for the regular season title with LSU at 21-9. Led the SEC in pitching with a team ERA of 3.45, led in fielding ay .981. Yet we were only 11th in the league in batting average at .259. We led in the SEC in walks and stolen bases, though and the guys just knew how to win close games. Plus we had Michael Byrne to lock games down.
