    Yeah, that’s not a freedom.

That’s asking, nay demanding, the rest of the state to sacrifice their freedoms to your benefit.

It’s really looking like some of these “people without a party” on Too Hot have become closet Democrats.

I have little doubt that they used to be different, but they were so turned off by Trump and DeSantis, they are now bending over backwards to give Democrats a pass at anything their standards would otherwise deem wrong or bad policy.

Let’s poll small businesses around the country and see which party they find to be the “pro-business party” or the “party that will leave me alone.”

Hell, conduct that poll with small businesses in Florida, and they’d probably still pick the Republican Party.

And as far as social issues go. I really don’t think gay marriage and gay adoption are going anywhere. Same with transgender procedures for adults.

Democrats love arguing this strawman that if you don’t think a Christian baker should be compelled to bake a cake for a gay wedding, or if you disagree with Obergefell, you want to ban gay marriage. If you don’t think kids should be pushed to transgenderism, you hate trans people and want to ban trans procedures.

It’s all nonsense to demonize their opponents. That’s the only trick they have so they beat that horse to death through whatever lies and deceit they need.

Repubs are losing business too. DeSantis is leading the way.

No, I think the dugger clown on the covid thread is an idiot and said it a while back. BUT when the vast majority of a site is far left, so that explains a lot. I've defended DeSantis on the trans athlete bans as I have a daughter who plays sports and I know it's a huge advantage in certain sports to be a male.

What's funny to me is the party who's supposed to be the defenders of women's rights now want biological males playing sports. Also I don't think it's crazy to say let's not have drag shows in front of kids. If it's just adults, then knock yourself out and have fun.

Odd don't you think that throughout these culture wars we get quotes :" If you don’t think kids should be pushed to transgenderism, you hate trans people and want to ban trans procedures." But there never has been ANY evidence of this "pushing" actually happening systematically as the Pubs rally against it. Details like proof are unnecessary in the fight against woke.

Disagree there. There is plenty of proof, some people just choose to ignore it. We had hospitals openly doing trans surgeries on minors. That is crazy to me. I'm all for liberties but someone who isn't old enough to vote or own a gun or drink can changer their gender?

I don’t know who specifically you are addressing, but in some ways this could include me. I was Republican through about 2003 and have since primarily voted Democratic. I mostly liked Obama, and apart from being way too old Biden is Ok, not perfect. I can certainly name substantive issues where I disagree with them.

But that is the difference. They are substantive issues. Republicans are no longer a party of substantive issues with people like Trump, Desantis and MTG. It is political grandstanding at the expense of our democracy, our institutions and our nation.

The Democrats have gotten worse over the years. The republicans have gone from bad to batshit crazy. This horrible combination of conspiracy theorists, cultural warriors and religious zealots. It is awful.

Occasionally I see a ray of hope with someone like Nikki Haley, or Chris Christie, but then they have to appeal to the 50-67% of their party who is either a culture warrior, conspiracy theorist or religious zealot, or all of the above.

So yes, for all of its growing warts, the Democratic Party is still the most workable party we have.

I've come to the conclusion both sides are bat shit crazy. Are there some sane dems and sane reps? Yes, but like you said far too few. I think it's even that both sides are going too far. But that's just my opinion.

I hope Chris Sununu jumps into the race. Candidates like him may not win a primary, but it sure would be nice to vote FOR someone. IDK, maybe someone like that will stick out like sore thumb amongst the obnoxious wing and secure a decent %.

I agree with most of your analysis but disagree with your conclusion.
Both parties are equally messed up.
Why you think the pubs are worse is strange for me.

Not only health freedom, health care access. OBGYN s are leaving, not entering schools. Shortage is building in strict states.

Because these cultural issues like Trans, LBGTQ rights, “wokeness”, gender confusion, blah blah that motivate you and others generally are big yawns to me. At times I may agree other times it’s ridiculous, but they don’t move the needle for me.

However I see what most republicans have come to represent as dangerous. They are part of a worldwide trend to move away from democracy to something else. Ultimately republicans are losing the culture war in overall society, so they are trying to win it back via political means.

People like Trump and MTG are utter clowns, and Desantis is transforming into something almost as bad.

The whole abortion thing is terrible.

Why would you think I should support republicans? What do they value that I do?

This whole abortion pill thing is a can of worms unless SCOTUS shuts it down cold. It opens the possibility for the courts to legislate healthcare from the bench. Abortion pill first, then what’s next? Birth control? Vaccines? Any other useful drug that has side effects (which would be most of them)?

It was the economist Ronald Coase who first recognized that externalities are reciprocal. In the mask situation, freedoms were clearly being impinged in both directions.

Desantis is in over his head at this point. The Legislatures is now on its third try to get the upper hand. Even right wingers are asking why he keeps digging his heels in on the Disney issue. He was hoping to say that he defeated Disney before his campaign starts, but that won't be the case. It will take years to sort out

Add in the MAGA crazies like MJT, Gaetz, Boebert, and all the other Trump apologists, I think this is very true. There are times when I feel I’m shoved to the left, even though I don’t like being there.

How many such surgeries are you aware of? What were the reasons? Is because it seems to me that the Foxians and MAGAs have picked a false battle-cry to War against Gays. They make things up, and treat the contrivances conceived by the likes of Chris Rufo in a think tank boardroom and run with the propaganda as if it’s gospel.

The entire grooming talking point is a gigantic charade. Sure, there are bad apples that have crossed the line, but those events are so minuscule that they are not worthy of reasonable debate. But a Fox and their MAGA friends have so grossly misrepresented the extent of the minuscule events to scare a population into fearing sending their kid to school.

There is no legitimate reason why in 2023 we should be having a debate as to whether gay people should have the right to be gay and the freedom to live their life. This should not even be an issue.

As for trans, does any reasonable person really believe that Le Cage Au Folles is dangerous to children and families? That is what DeSantis is saying.

Are there places where reasonable people might disagree on issues? Sure, like whether trans athletes should be able to play in a biologically-adverse competitive sport. I don’t think they should. I understand the point of those who disagree. But given the state AND BREADTH of The War against Gay, I am fighting for the rights of Gays, all else things being considered.
