Became a battle of pride between two imperial aristocratic types. Not dissimilar to Hitler vs Stalin. Who's got the biggest penis.

IMO this decision is almost as satisfying as loser Frumpy getting kicked out of office.

It wax probably best for both parties.
Still would have been nice to have the Fox folks under oath having to admit that they knew it was all bogus.

how much cash can Fox pay out before they are no longer viable? Can they discharge the judgements through bankruptcy?

will smartmatic accept the same as Dominion? Another $250M or so for the fired producer. Pushing $2B in cash. Can Fox do that and stay in business?

and will the Murdoch family be held personally liable when the shareholders sue them?

is there insurance for these sort of settlements?

Fox resolves Dominion case, but a bigger election defamation lawsuit looms (msn.com)

But Fox’s lawyers will stay busy navigating the legal fallout of the network’s 2020 election coverage with a potentially far more damaging defamation lawsuit by voting technology company Smartmatic, as well as a separate but related lawsuit by a recently fired producer.
    ..........
“Smartmatic now has a bargaining chip, and Fox has shown it is willing to take out its checkbook and write a big check,” said University of Tennessee, Knoxville media law professor Stuart Brotman. “From Fox’s standpoint, now that they realize they can get a successful settlement, they have a basis for a real discussion with Smartmatic.”

Smartmatic is seeking $2.7 billion in damages from Fox and five individuals, including former Trump lawyers and hosts.

Smartmatic alleges in its lawsuit in New York County Supreme Court that the defendants knowingly spread false claims that its software was used to flip votes. Conspiracy theorists erroneously claimed Smartmatic owned Dominion, and the companies mounted similar allegations in their lawsuits.

We can hope. But nature abhors a vacuum, and so far each right wing propagandist shut down has only spawned a worse version. E.g. Bill O'Reilly > Tucker Carlson.

Well that's true but I imagine the lawyers will tell them to tone it down a notch or two.

NPR legal consultants today suggest Smartmatics 2.7 billon case is even stronger than Dominions. I hope that's true.

I doubt BK would be on the table, saw someone on financial network claiming they had $4 Billion cash and cash equivalents. I’m sure that can be verified if someone cares to check their last quarterly.

Of course, the entire market cap of the company is $10 billion so these suits will add up. They are material numbers, but not company enders. With Murdock also being worth more than that personally (est $21 Billion) there would be alot of backstops before a bankruptcy. That’s a good thing for the victims of Fox who want to get paid.

I read that the newspaper suit for hacking phones/voicemails in the UK was over $1.2B in charges by 2020 and was still going up.

Paraphrasing a commentator, I believe it was Andrew Weissmann, the lawsuit isn't going to deter Fox News from running fake stories, what it will do is deter Fox and implicitly other media outlets from running fake stories when the party damaged is a potential plaintiff with deep pockets including the resources to retain topflight legal representation as well as to wait out the delaying procedural stunts that Fox or a similar media defendant could employ.

Problem is, now that Fox has shown to be big pocketed on these (this may have been the largest defamation settlement in history), there will be lawyers willing to wait them out on even smaller cases.

that's a lot of pillows. his pockets aren't that deep and he has several other similar suits filed against him. Everything DT touches goes south and people keep lining up to be touched.

Dominion still has a suit against him too.

it’s amazing how every single person who loudly aligns themselves with Trump end up ruined, but the orange one still walks free.

His show was apparently titled “Canceled in the USA”. :emoji_joy:

Almost as prophetic as Giuliani’s buddies who called their “company” by the name: Fraud Guarantee LLC.

Apparently Bongino, Pirro, Bartiromo were all given pink slips.

I wonder if Fox had to do it all over again, would they push the big lie after all that transpired? I’m leaning towards a resounding "yes."
