Not cocky - I would classify Steve as the most competitive person I know. He would want to bet money on whose thumb would catch us a ride down Univ Ave to church on Sundays in ‘63.

 

Absolutely. The offense, while not great, was still enough to win games. We would've been a 9+ win team if we had even just an ok defense ranked in the 40s-50s.

Until 2017, our defenses were perennial top 20.

Cool. And thanks. I got a little riled up because no matter what Lane Kiffen makes of his career down the road, he started out as a total douchebag. Steve Spurrier was and is as far from a douche as a person can get. He is the Anti-douche. That right there invalidates any comparisons, past or present.

Lane may be a little less of a douche today than he used to be, but I think there will always be a little bit of douche in his DNA.

The age question really did go only to perspective, and I won’t repeat my reasoning here other than to say it was never intended to be taken as an insult. Go Gators

They hated him at the time....now most generally seem to view him fondly

 

Hopefully all those new dbs help us cover better. The return of devin Moore will be significant. He was missed.

I LOVED the days when those whiney announcers would complain about SOS scoring points relentlessly:

SOS: The job of our offense is to score points. It's up to the opposition to stop us.

All the while Bobby Bowden was running up 70+ on Div 2 outfits and the same people were talking about what a classy southern gentleman he was.

 

Remember how south Florida high school coaches were steering their prized receivers away from Florida and towards Miami because we didn’t have a Quarterback? Well…
Certainly would have an excellent chance to win the starting nod here. Can we pony up NIL money to best Bama who is also said to be interested or will Miami talk him off the ledge?
