Mertz or Miller may turn out to be the guy for the next two years but it doesn’t look like it. It’s not often that a guy in his third or fourth year out of high school. Finally has things click most of the truly good quarterbacks play well as red shirt freshman, and are drafted by the third year.
And the next year with Mertz, Miller, Brown and Lagway? You do NOT think one of them can win the starting job as QB1? Let's say none of them are ready in 2024, why not get another McCall type one and done QB1 from the portal again? We will also have a great 2025 QB on our team after Lagway's second year, so do we complicate our QB room even more with another QB? I'm not saying I want one type of outcome, I'm just trying to rationalize one side. That does not mean I am inflexible and that my suggestion for our QB room is immutable. I am open to other ideas.
He is by far our best bet Still hoping for the best for Mertz but as I’ve been saying he has a ton of experience being a well below average QB.
After watching clips of elusive QB Austin, I'm starting to think reclassification isn't such a bad idea. If our OL doesn't hold up we will need an energetic scrambling QB who can break containment. Then he can be either 1a or 1b with Lagway next year....but a solid backup at the very worst.
Kinda with Rick, I'm all in with Lagway, oh and BTW, I don't want to rock the boat of arguably the BEST recruiter UF has right now.
