Love to base our gun laws on how a paranoid and racist 85 year old behind a locked door might hypothetically feel

In the last few days we've had a kid shot for knocking on the wrong door to pick up his siblings, cheerleaders shot for mistaking a car as theirs, and a woman shot when she and her friends turned down a wrong driveway and turned to leave. I've literally done all of these things by mistake myself. None of the victims gave any indications of violence.

    TOO MANY GUNS

The wounded victim staggered to 4 other houses begging for help and had the door shut in his face at each one, and was essentially left to die, before finally being helped by this neighbor. Am I supposed to be impressed that one of them was humane enough to help?

Let’s not blame the modern mainstream media for the actions of someone born in the 1930s. The media didn’t tell him to be scared of people who look like Ralph Yarl, he felt that way long before mainstream media existed.

Sometimes little successes are all that we have to celebrate. But we should still celebrate our best, even if it isn't as good as we want it to be.

Here's an example, I sold my zero turn last night and the guy who bought it from me was a white guy in his late 20s - his FB profile said so. He was supposed to come by right before it got dark but it tuned into 9:30 then 10:10. My wife and I were slightly concerned so I put my shotgun by the front door and my wife had her pistol and she kept a distance. Just to be safe because where we live, no one will hear your screams. Late at night after several changes in times will make you concerned no matter who the buyer is. It ended up being nothing, the young man was very cool and he brought his wife too (in her car, never got out). I never took race as incrimination, anybody can be bad. I just know that usually you don't do monetary transactions with people at night. Probably the best idea would have been to push this off to another day but he said he was coming back from Mississippi and had a trailer. We ended up chatting for a bit and he and his family moved from Ohio to Talladega and he didn't have a mower for his large yard. He was transporting a large piece of equipment for the company he works for and saw my ad before coming back. It worked out perfectly since he just sold his 2nd car he didn't need anymore and had the exact amount of cash for the mower.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but you guys sound like a mob ready to head over to the guy's house and execute him. He's not innocent, never said he was.

Whether you are impressed or not is meaningless. Your opinion on any aspect of this horrendous incident is also meaningless. I’m just wondering where and how you developed your tremendous “face reading” skills.

I’m wondering when you’ll condemn the racist shooter who almost killed this black kid. You’ve deflected to talking about everything but the actual shooter.

This is true. Luckily the racist piece of garbage is in custody and with any luck will properly be punished, although as we’ve seen before with these types of incidents, nothing is a slam dunk.

Hey, I figured your condemnation was more than sufficient. Ima gonna let the professional prosecutor and jury handle my part.

So ….. what about those unbelievable “face reading” skills of yours ….. how were they developed??

Ask the old racist white man how he developed his fear of black people, then I’ll tell you how I developed my skills.

In maybe 1983 my girlfriend was working part time for Schweitzer and associates. Her father was a civil engineer there.(I think). She was thrown keys and told to get lunch with a vague description of the car. She got in a car. White bmw I think. She started drove to get lunch. Coming back to the car the key wouldn’t work. She called the office. She inadvertently had taken someone else’s car. If she had been black she probably would have ended up in jail. Instead now Dr. P has an amusing anecdote.

News basically sucks reporting anecdotes not facts on crime. The old guy sees nothing but crime being reported 24 hours a day on 24 hour news. It may have had an impact of this morons fear.

Yeah, the murder rate has gone up but was higher in the 80's and early 90's. I wonder if people would know that if asked. I think the coverage of crimes and some of the rhetoric about it is likely causing many people to overestimate the degree of personal risk they face. That doesn't mean it's not good to be prepared because I think it is. But we're going to have a lot more people getting shot to death if people watching tv let the coverage put them in a state of rage or paranoia.

I've never actually entered the car of another one that resembled mine although on at least one occasion I did try to unlock the door of a car that was similar to mine.

I think there is though, a connection between fear of black people by police and white citizens and their reactions to situations. A white teenager accidentally walking up to the same house would likely not be shot. Same with many of the police reactions to blowing away innocent black people being stopped for simple traffic violations. It's tragic, and it doesn't help when media, and Fox news is agitating in this regard, creates fear for political reasons.
