That’s cool. You’re not trying to tell me that Steve Spurrier and Lane Kiffen should be talked about in the same sentence. They shouldn’t. Both are cocky - that’s where the similarities end.

I ask the age question because some younger folks here have no tangible connection to SOS at his peak, beyond stuff they’ve read or heard. That falls far short of who and what Steve Spurrier was at his prime, and still is today. In the 90s he was the heart and soul of a Gator football program that had accomplished precious little before he arrived. You had to be there. Lane Kiffen hasn’t been the heart and soul of squat. He’s a cocky loudmouth with potential, who has yet to accomplish anything significant. That clown couldn’t carry Steve Spurrier’s jock.

October 29, 1966. Most incredible football story ever, in my humble opinion. And I had the good fortune of being there.
Lane Kiffen has never done anything to come close to that remarkable feat by Steve Spurrier.
That said: I don’t feel the disdain for Lane that I used to feel. I think he has evolved into a pretty good coach and a much better person than he was earlier in his career.

Wow, not only did he look pretty bad, but his mechanics look poor to me. Not saying he won't turn out to be a good QB, but he looks far from a "can't miss".

Honest answer 38 But WTH does that matter? It's an ignorant question when my basis for the comparison was that both SOS and Kiffen are funny. I am fully aware that Spurrier built the Gator nation. I don't need any history lessons or mock outrage Skinky. Kiffen has done nothing as a coach, as a winner, as a player to compare to Steve Superior. No one on this board ever has drawn that conclusion that I can recall. Especially me.
The more pertinent question may be how old are you now?

Can I say way cool you were there? Love Spurrier!!

I was there for the jump pass Timmy threw and that’s the closest I can compare to your awesome memory.

First off do you agree? If you do, what position would be a number one priority?

I’m not completely sold on the QB situation out of spring so if there is an absolute stud who is a day one starter available, we should make a run.

Would like to see another proven play maker at wide receiver.

You never know. Bring barely ranked vs a 6 win season isn’t all that much different.

agreed and last year we were close to being a 9 win team if we had a few more defensive stops a game

SOS is not "cocky." He is confident, because he's been there and done that. Kiffin is cocky, because he acts like he's been there and done that.

Another real distinction and difference between the two.

Thanks - you made my point for me. The only thing they have in common is that they’re cocky. Spurrier has the hardware to back it up. Kiffen doesn’t, so I don’t think he’s anywhere near as funny as SOS, but that’s my opinion — regardless, it’s the only thing the two have in common.

No need to get so bent out of shape at my ‘honest question’ - I was only trying to put your opinion in perspective. What’s so “ignorant “ about that?

I never thought of him as cocky, but maybe he has been a tad bit arrogant when it comes to his opinions about other football teams/coaches. Yes, that could be considered psychological warfare. But cocky is what other coaches and team's players call him. That's NOT my perspective.
