What I pulled up (an article) may be the wrong matter but suggests it's a civil case with a Section 1983 claim.
Disney fact checked DeSantis' Press conference Disney Quietly Fires Back at DeSantis' Press Conference Claims, Takeover of the Reedy Creek Improvement District - WDW News Today
You know what "Makes it awfully difficult to have a conversation with anybody." Well how about refusing to answer a question. SMH Fascism ( Brittanica): "1 or Fascism : a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government " Makes one wonder why this was made the very First Amendment, right?
See Walgreens, Chick-Fil-A, the New York indictment on Trump, the IRS targeting conservative groups. See letters threatening social media companies not to roll back censorship or there will be Congressional action. Democrats love censorship. They love implementing censorship through policy and policy threats, they love implementing censorship through intimidation, they love implementing censorship through the heckler's veto, and they love implementing censorship through "peaceful" protests. Is this an ugly game? Yes... it is... and I don't like it. But here's the thing, if one side censors the other while it's in power and the other doesn't, the side who doesn't will slowly lose institutional power and influence to the point that they will never gain power again. So if you don't like what DeSantis is doing, but you like you tolerate or accept all of the things I listed above, maybe it's not DeSantis that you don't like, but your own reflection.
Governor disagreed with corporate policy, said so, no action taken Mayor disagreed with corporate culture said so, Chic-fil-a in Boston He broke the law. Should a public officer sworn to enforce the law just ignore it? Debunked so many times.
Also need to include the distinction between a gov't entity taking action against a private company versus private citizens making choices about where and how to spend THEIR money. Unless someone is advocating for somehow forcing private citizens to spend their money at certain establishments (talk about big govt).
Poster again shows that 1st Amend is optional because of peaceful protests? Immediately followed by claims that Dems "threatened" this or that vs DeS taking punitive action. Any difference there? The NY indictment of the cult leader is not a 1st amend. issue. Heckling ? Really... watch MTG and L. Boebert during the State of Union. This paragraph is a complete abandonment of Democracy that you simply suggest as an acceptable SOP. "Is this an ugly game? Yes... it is... and I don't like it. But here's the thing, if one side censors the other while it's in power and the other doesn't, the side who doesn't will slowly lose institutional power and influence to the point that they will never gain power again." Be better
Without getting into the weeds about the targeting accusations against the IRS, it's worth noting that there was some widespread condemnation of those alleged actions and motives. According to Wikipedia: IRS targeting controversy - Wikipedia Press reaction to the IRS's actions was intense. MSNBC's Rachel Maddow said: "There is a reasonable fear by all of us, by any of us, that the kind of power the IRS has could be misused," she further said that this scrutiny of Tea Party groups was "not fair."[89] Comedy Central's Jon Stewart stated that the controversy had taken "the last arrow in your pro-governance quiver," he further said that this threw doubt on President Obama's "managerial competence" and had proven correct "conspiracy theorists," moving the burden of proof onto federal authorities.[89] ABC News' Terry Moran wrote that this was: "A truly Nixonian abuse of power by the Obama administration."[89] NBC's Tom Brokaw stated: "It's time for action." NBC's White House correspondent Chuck Todd: "It didn't seem like they had a sense of urgency about it, a real sense of outrage," and further; "This is outrageous no matter what political party you are."[89] MSNBC's Joe Scarborough said: "This is tyranny," and talked of "unspeakable" abuses by the IRS. "This time it's real."[89]
This implies that Newsom made a genuine attempt. If Newsom really wanted to punish Walgreens, he could have bullied the California Legislature into taking some action, like DeSantis did. Instead, he issued some empty threats and did nothing. I disagree with Newsom's threats. But there was no real substance behind them. Massive difference between him and DeSantis, who has followed through on the threats. Of course, I dislike Newsom because he engages in that sort of behavior, whereas you are a DeSantis fluffer. I get that playing stupid is your thing, but authoritarianism requires actual action, yes. And no, the United States's war on drugs is not authoritarian. It's bad policy. You keep grasping at straws with these weird tangents. Spreading conspiracy theories about wealthy Jews accusing them of controlling government institutions is indeed antisemitism. Hope you're finally catching on. Or you can keep making antisemitic remarks. False. I very clearly explained the sequence of events that justify it and why I think it would be a positive thing. But again, playing stupid is your thing. Your blanket accusations of Trump being "prejudicially targeted" are conjecture. Are you disputing he gave the money to Michael Cohen to pay off Daniels? If he did that, the question becomes whether that violates the law. A jury will get to decide both questions (did he do it and does it violate the law). That's not authoritarianism. Not necessarily. But in Trump's case, he's wealthy and can afford an effective defense. As long as there's no prosecutorial misconduct, the proceeding should uphold his rights. Giving money to a candidate's PAC is basically giving money to the candidate. Giving money to a PAC that focuses on a specific issue and gives money to a number of different candidates is not the same thing. Again, I understand that playing stupid is your thing, but any honest person recognizes the difference. All of this beclowning yourself to defend an antisemitic remark. For shame. I don't care about COVID passports. But if you care, that's your business. They have no effect on my life. And vaccine "passports" are nothing new. I had to show proof of vaccination to attend K-12 school and college. As for COVID policy, there were mistakes made all around, but that's to be expected when dealing with a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic that killed millions of people. Beclowning yourself again. As you sit here and whine that Democrats have forced you to support policies you don't like, I've called out multiple Democratic politicians for behavior I dislike. The difference between us is that I have principles, while you're an unscrupulous hack. This is quite the projection. Very impressive.
When you oppose the foundations of liberal democracy, you have to find a way to justify it. This is his way of justifying it. He blames the Democrats for his own terrible beliefs. It's childish and unprincipled. But it's what I expect from a DeSantis fan.
Thing is, he may get his wish. Superstar academics, smart college students, and educated young people may indeed get so fed up that they start leaving or stop coming to Florida. That'll only result in brain drain. But for the culture warriors, I guess it's better that Florida become Mississippi than Florida be "woke."
To be sure, businesses will leave, too. It’s getting more and more expensive here, and if the State becomes inhospitable to the employees, it might be team to relocate. DeSantis has not demonstrated an ounce of ability to engage in forward thinking.
It will be interesting to see what the next Governor does and how the party moves forward post-DeSantis. It's possible that Florida Republicans have moved right with DeSantis and that he's done what he has done with the presidential primary in mind. Also possible with super majorities that Florida Republicans continue to move right and press these issues because the most active and vocal element of the base demands it.
It's all talk. DeSantis isn't going to get rid of Disney because he's using this for votes and if he doesn't get elected or does, the story disappears. Disney brings too many dollars to Florida's coffers and if Disney folded up shop and moved somewhere else like Puerto Rico (don't laugh, Keith Obermann has pleaded with Disney to move to PR), Florida loses close to $75B in business revenue that in order to make up the difference they would have to start taxing income. That won't ever happen.
And the Florida Legislature is already acting to try and (unconstitutionally) invalidate the agreements (amendment just introduced today): https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1604/Amendment/603230/HTML
Desantis didn't even know that Orange and Osceola are the one that evaluate Disney property? Is he that much of a moron? Or liar? Disney literally just sued Orange county's property appraiser a couple years ago and a judge awarded them millions back that it paid in taxes after the county purposely overestimated their values to make them pay more. How does Desantis not know this? And pretty much anything in this article he should be fully aware of when spewing answers at a press conference.
WRONG "Today, at Governor Newsom’s directive, DGS gave formal notice that it is withdrawing a planned renewal of that agreement set to take effect on May 1, 2023, and instead will explore other options for furnishing the same services. Under this contract, Walgreens has received about $54 million from the State." Governor Newsom: California Pulls Back Renewal of Walgreens Contract | California Governor Newsom tried to save face by having his spokesman claim that tweets are not policy (even though the governor announced a policy and directed state agencies to review any deals with Walgreens). Newsom’s Walgreens abortion boycott flopped in a month Newsom has attempted similar shenanigans to DeSantis... you're just choosing to give him a pass when those shenanigans fail while simultaneously ripping DeSantis while claiming his attempts against Disney will fail or has failed. WRONG Boston mayor Thomas Menino is not about to have "Chick-fil-A or whatever the hell the name is, on our Freedom Trail." Menino has promised to block the fried chicken chain from opening in Boston after Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy admitted he was "guilty as charged" in having an anti-homosexual stance. "If they need licenses in the city," Menino told The Boston Herald, "it will be very difficult — unless they open up their policies." Menino both tried to intimidate Chick-Fil-A away from the city and suggested that it would be "very difficult" for them to open a franchise in Boston specifically over their personal beliefs. Question isn't whether he broke the law. The question is if Trump were anybody else, would he be treated like this by this DA. Considering that the dude campaigned on going after Trump and not prosecuting misdemeanors, considering that this may come down to a question of counting days to see if the Statute of Limitations has run... If that's not going after a guy, then finding the crime what is? Dude told you that's what he was doing. Wrong again. "The Internal Revenue Service apologized Friday for subjecting Tea Party groups to additional scrutiny during the 2012 election...Lois Lerner, who heads the IRS unit that oversees tax-exempt groups, said organizations that included the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their applications for tax-exempt status were singled out for additional reviews." IRS apologizes for targeting conservative groups
