Democrats love censorship. They love implementing censorship through policy and policy threats, they love implementing censorship through intimidation, they love implementing censorship through the heckler's veto, and they love implementing censorship through "peaceful" protests.

Is this an ugly game? Yes... it is... and I don't like it. But here's the thing, if one side censors the other while it's in power and the other doesn't, the side who doesn't will slowly lose institutional power and influence to the point that they will never gain power again.

So if you don't like what DeSantis is doing, but you like you tolerate or accept all of the things I listed above, maybe it's not DeSantis that you don't like, but your own reflection.

Also need to include the distinction between a gov't entity taking action against a private company versus private citizens making choices about where and how to spend THEIR money. This implies that Newsom made a genuine attempt. If Newsom really wanted to punish Walgreens, he could have bullied the California Legislature into taking some action, like DeSantis did. Instead, he issued some empty threats and did nothing. I disagree with Newsom's threats. But there was no real substance behind them. Massive difference between him and DeSantis, who has followed through on the threats. Of course, I dislike Newsom because he engages in that sort of behavior, whereas you are a DeSantis fluffer.

Your blanket accusations of Trump being "prejudicially targeted" are conjecture. Are you disputing he gave the money to Michael Cohen to pay off Daniels? If he did that, the question becomes whether that violates the law. A jury will get to decide both questions (did he do it and does it violate the law). That's not authoritarianism.

Not necessarily. But in Trump's case, he's wealthy and can afford an effective defense. As long as there's no prosecutorial misconduct, the proceeding should uphold his rights.

Giving money to a candidate's PAC is basically giving money to the candidate. I don't care about COVID passports. But if you care, that's your business. They have no effect on my life. And vaccine "passports" are nothing new. I had to show proof of vaccination to attend K-12 school and college.

Thing is, he may get his wish. Superstar academics, smart college students, and educated young people may indeed get so fed up that they start leaving or stop coming to Florida. That'll only result in brain drain. But for the culture warriors, I guess it's better that Florida become Mississippi than Florida be "woke."

 

To be sure, businesses will leave, too. It’s getting more and more expensive here, and if the State becomes inhospitable to the employees, it might be team to relocate. DeSantis has not demonstrated an ounce of ability to engage in forward thinking.

 

It will be interesting to see what the next Governor does and how the party moves forward post-DeSantis. It's possible that Florida Republicans have moved right with DeSantis and that he's done what he has done with the presidential primary in mind. Also possible with super majorities that Florida Republicans continue to move right and press these issues because the most active and vocal element of the base demands it.

 

It's all talk. DeSantis isn't going to get rid of Disney because he's using this for votes and if he doesn't get elected or does, the story disappears. Disney brings too many dollars to Florida's coffers and if Disney folded up shop and moved somewhere else like Puerto Rico (don't laugh, Keith Obermann has pleaded with Disney to move to PR), Florida loses close to $75B in business revenue that in order to make up the difference they would have to start taxing income. That won't ever happen.

Disney literally just sued Orange county's property appraiser a couple years ago and a judge awarded them millions back that it paid in taxes after the county purposely overestimated their values to make them pay more. How does Desantis not know this? And pretty much anything in this article he should be fully aware of when spewing answers at a press conference.

Newsom has attempted similar shenanigans to DeSantis... you're just choosing to give him a pass when those shenanigans fail while simultaneously ripping DeSantis while claiming his attempts against Disney will fail or has failed.

Menino both tried to intimidate Chick-Fil-A away from the city and suggested that it would be "very difficult" for them to open a franchise in Boston specifically over their personal beliefs.

Question isn't whether he broke the law. The question is if Trump were anybody else, would he be treated like this by this DA.
