I know it’s tough for you River, but just read the thread.

I mentioned same as Walgreens and Chick-Fil-A, then I mentioned he’s helping preserve the rights of parents and the innocence of children.

And you contribute absolutely nothing, at least I provide an alternative opinion to the hive mind here.

The thread has more than 400 posts. If you were serious about honest conversation, you would point out the answer that you allude to rather than attempt a lame insult.

I did point out the answer and made an observation, not an insult. A good indication that my observation was correct is that you agreed with it, "this thread has more than 400 posts."

Some things we learned from @gator_lawyer
    1. A failed attempt at punishing someone for exercising their First Amendment rights is not authoritarian.
    2. Authoritarianism only comes from explicit policy overtly targeting a specific party with prejudice, not enforcement of policy. In other words, the war on drugs is not authoritarian.
    3. If it’s possible to open a franchise, even if a city overtly tries to make it more difficult to open a franchise SPECIFICALLY so a particular business cannot open a franchise due to their religious beliefs… and they overtly come out and say that… that’s not discriminatory… but when Republicans ask for voter ID, that IS discriminatory. It's a nod to Jim Crow.
    4. Mere authoritarian rhetoric from politicians is not worthy of scrutiny unless it manifests into action, unless we're talking about Donald Trump.
    5. We should point it out when special interests own politicians unless “special interests” involves a Jewish person funding a leftist.
    6. The real reason Democrats find it necessary to expand the Supreme Court is really over one pick, Merrick Garland, not the three Supreme Court picks Trump had or the current balance of power on the Supreme Court (Sure). And this sort of reactionary policy is totally justified, but right wing reactionary policy is unjustified.
    7. If you’re charged with a crime you committed, even if you were prejudicially targeted, that isn’t authoritarian (that's a big one :D).
    8. If you have your “day in court” your rights weren’t infringed apparently because you have an opportunity to defend yourself.
    9. Apparently giving money to a candidate via a PAC is not giving money to a candidate.
    10. COVID passports, and COVID policy even if it is restricting on the populace and authoritarian, it’s not something we should care about.

If this guy is a representation of the Democratic Party as a whole, then they have no standards except furthering an agenda based on equity. Anything goes as far dismantling the systems that are obstacles to that agenda, and anything goes to tear down the people who oppose that agenda.

They will lie, obfuscate, dictate the terms, the definitions, and standards… and they will expect you to accept all of that or else they will demonize you. They will support the institutions and play by the rules to force you to do the same until the rules no longer benefit them, then they will change the rules, the definitions, or both so they benefit Democrats, then scream bloody murder if you do the same.

Thing is, "saying Walgreens, Chick fil a, and preserving the innocence of children" isnt an answer to the question "what was the problem with Disney that Desantis remedied?"... Is it? You still haven't answered that, so I can only assume you havent got an answer....

My goodness, Disney, a California corporation, was trying to apply pressure to subvert the will of the people of Florida by mobilizing against the Parental Rights in Education Act. To preserve the rights of Florida parents, and protect the innocence of children, and preserve the will of the people in Florida, DeSantis took measures to revoke Disney's special privileges in the state so that they can be treated like everybody else.

Because of THIS, we have a 400 post thread here about how victimized Disney is.

I see, why didn't you just say DeDantis is punishing Disney for using their first amendment rights the first time??? We are in agreement on that. Could have saved about 40.posts here if you had just been honest from the start...

I have not seen a stitch of competent evidence that people move to Florida because of DeSantis. People move to Florida because it has desirable weather, no income tax, historical job opportunities, and affordable housing. And affordable housing is quickly deteriorating causing people to leave Florida.

Objectively, very few people move to or from a state based on politics. People move based on family, economic opportunities and quality of life.

I can barely believe the level of sophistry required to categorize the "don't say gay" rule as protecting the innocence of children.

As with the focus on the fake CRT issue, both efforts are about erasing anything and anyone from the public sphere other than the lionization of white Christians.

Some of those are outright policy, all of them are heavily influenced by policy.

    Policy IS politics.

Makes a lot more sense than the murdering of unborn children as protecting the bodily autonomy of "birthing people."

This is a bizarre take. Disney supported its employees and its patrons by saying that a law designed to utterly censor gay lifestyle is inequitable. Disney didn’t subvert the will of the people, Disney commented on legislation. There is a mountain of difference, not the least of which is the fact that the latter is a constitutionally protected right. Had DeSantis simply criticized Disney’s point, that would have been fine. But he exerted retaliatory action against Disney, which is itself unlawful.

We have this thread not because Disney is a likable company, but because we have an elected official who has grossly abused the power of his office to retaliate against a company that was simply exercising their right to free speech - a right guaranteed so that we may have open and robust debate on controversial topics.

The takeaway here is that if you approve of DeSantis’ actions, you approve of government censorship and the elimination of debate, protest and free speech.

Your consistent with your sophistry at least as a clump of cells or zygote is not an unborn child.

You’re a clump of cells too.

Also, at what point does it become an “unborn child.?” Is that when abortion should be banned for you?

The retaliatory action was so that Disney is treated like every other corporation in Florida.

Poor poor Disney, must be so tough for them.

I don’t support censorship, and I advocate in favor of free speech and debate, but I also favor turnabout and mutually assured destruction.

I see people bending over backwards to defend Newsom, while ripping DeSantis a new one, this is not about the rule of law or rights. This is entirely about politics.

None of these were changed by DeSantis.
