If trump went to jail for lying about the election “steal” that would be the most fitting end to his time in the spotlight. But Smith would have prove it basically, and the reaction from the election denying right would likely border on anger induced insanity.

Russia's Merchant of Death says that Trump's life is in danger, so he should defect to Russia for "protection".

Viktor Bout, the 'Merchant of Death' arms dealer exchanged for Brittney Griner, says he fears for Trump's life and urged him to flee to Russia

Maybe Trump will get a penthouse suite with a nice balcony.

Agent Smith continues to build the obstruction case

Prosecutors questioning witnesses about Trump paying for their attorneys in special counsel probe: report (msn.com)

The investigation into former President Donald Trump's handling of classified documents is focusing on the attorneys for some witnesses in the case, inquiring if any of them sought to influence testimony in order to protect Trump, CNN reported.

Witnesses who either work for Trump or are represented by lawyers provided by him are facing questions from federal prosecutors, asking how they found their lawyers and if they know how they were compensated.

"The line of questioning about Trump-provided attorneys suggests prosecutors are looking at any efforts by the former president to keep control over more than two dozen Mar-a-Lago staffers and political aides who have become central witnesses in recent months, and whose legal bills are paid by Trump," CNN's report stated. "Investigators working for special counsel Jack Smith are exploring multiple facets of a possible obstruction case, and that could include whether testimony has been improperly influenced and coordinated within Trump’s legal network."

Shouldn't be all that surprising. Trump's apparent strategy isn't dissimilar to that of other criminal organizations that provide attorneys for individuals lower down in the organization's hierarchy. Rather than actually representing their nominal clients their real function is the protection of the interests of whomever is paying their fees, in this case the Don of Mar-a-Lago. Reminds me of Cassidy Hutchinson who was advised to claim that she couldn't recall details of the events leading up to January 6th by her Trump-provided attorneys. After she retained her own counsel she provided very detailed testimony to the Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection.

I am not so sure this is entirely about obstruction. Money was solicited based on representations thst it would be used to pursue claims that the election was stolen. And they have developed evidence that the people easing the money knew that the election results were valor. It seems likely based on open slot e reporting that PAC money was been used to pay for attorneys instead of to pursue the election claims. These raises hornbook issues of wire fraud since tweets and emails were used to solicit the money. So, we should be careful making assumptions as to why these questions are being asked. True, There have also been instances where witnesses were more forthcoming after they changed attorneys (Cassidy Hutchinson).

No matter who pays the lawyer, the lawyers duty is to the client— not the payor.

While that's absolutely correct under the Code of Professional Responsibility, in the real world not all attorneys act ethically. See the previously cited example of Cassidy Hutchinson.
Trump attorney could face disbarment over Cassidy Hutchinson testimony
A group of three dozen attorneys affiliated with the center-left organization Lawyers Defending American Democracy filed a complaint with the Washington, D.C., bar on Monday, accusing Stefan Passantino—a former member of the White House counsel's office—of pressuring Cassidy Hutchinson, an aide to former Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, to provide false testimony to members of Congress investigating the president's actions leading up to the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
A real irony considering Passantino's former position.
Exclusive: Trump's former White House ethics lawyer told Cassidy Hutchinson to give misleading testimony to January 6 committee, sources say

Just a guess but I suspect that the attorneys retained and compensated by Trump to represent employees of Mar-a-Lago may very well have similar ethical shortcomings.

Apparently Michael Cohen has not been candid about his corn flakes consumption. He's a cereal liar.

DT forgot that suing Cohen opened discovery that would allow Cohen to pursue his case for Trump illegally puttign Cohen back in jail as punishment.

Ex-prosecutor warns Trump's "vengeance" lawsuit against Michael Cohen could blow up in his face (msn.com)

"Trump just opened a pathway to discovery — and information for the public — that Cohen had sought in a different lawsuit which a judge reluctantly felt compelled to dismiss last November because of Supreme Court law limiting personal actions against government officials," Aftergut wrote.

"In December 2021, Cohen sued Trump for orchestrating the [Cohen's] reincarceration. In November 2022, federal Judge Lewis Liman lamented that Trump's status as a government official in 2020, when the reincarceration occurred, blocked courts from providing any relief against Trump."

"Trump is giving Cohen a clean second shot at exposing the same truth through discovery," he wrote. "As a defendant in the new suit, Cohen should be entitled to subpoena documents and testimony to show a jury that the action against him is part of a pattern and practice on Trump's part of silencing his enemies through misuse of the law, adding, "Cohen may also have a countersuit to bring if he believes that Trump has retaliated against his right to voluntarily speak to prosecutors. In any case, neither party is likely to emerge unscathed in this latest legal battle between the two."

Just in from the Ga investigations. Proof of (attempted) voter fraud. The WH that corruption built.

Exclusive: Text messages reveal Trump operatives considered using breached voting data to decertify Georgia's Senate runoff in 2021 | CNN Politics

In mid-January 2021, two men hired by former President Donald Trump’s legal team discussed over text message what to do with data obtained from a breached voting machine in a rural county in Georgia, including whether to use it as part of an attempt to decertify the state’s pending Senate runoff results.

The texts, sent two weeks after operatives breached a voting machine in Coffee County, Georgia, reveal for the first time that Trump allies considered using voting data not only to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, but also in an effort to keep a Republican hold on the US Senate.

Last year, a former Trump official testified under oath to the House January 6 committee that plans to access voting systems in Georgia were discussed in meetings at the White House, including during a now infamous Oval Office meeting on December 18, 2020,  that included Trump.

The reason the Georgia case is rose for trump, beyond the recorded phone calls, is because there are going to be a whole web of people caught up in this. He needs every one of them to stay loyal and not let the evidence roll up hill as they talk to save their own skin.

It's going to drag out longer. The Republican party hired the same attorney, Kimberly Debrow, to represent 10 of the "fake electors." (She was reportedly paid $200,000.) Offers of complete immunity were made to this attorney for at least several of those clients, an offer that was never conveyed to some of them. Additionally, some of the fake electors are incriminating each other, yet she continues to represent them all. If these allegations are true, these are ethical violations of the absolute highest order. The GA DA is seeking her removal and these people will need new, conflict free counsel.

MAGA: Making Attorneys Get Attorneys. I can not stress enough how egregious and fundamental these alleged ethical violations are, Ms. Debrow will be very fortunate if she is only suspended.
