Alright- I’ll be the jerk that takes lumps for starting this - but I think it matters. (Note- if you are over 70, think we should be Alabama, don’t care, or wanna make laser/jet pack jokes- not your thread) FSU just revealed they will be going to a more classic look this year with Nike new FUSE line. Colors change, block numbers etc. Rumor is Florida may be in the group that does this. My hope is we go back to the 90s shade of darker blue. But I also hope we have several uni combos including but not limited to - occasionally - Blue helmets combo, fighting gator logo, orange jerseys, blackout unis We have the best mascot in sports. People buy up the fighting gator logo in droves- why not feature it more? uniforms matter. They matter to the kids, huge swaths of fans (yes, I used swaths and droves in the same post), ESPN does features on unis, there are social media platforms dedicated to just unis. They matter. We need every advantage we can get as we rebuild the brand. CBN and Stricklin have dropped the ball capitalizing on rebranding us. We are not Alabama or USC. We have our own identity- fun n’ gun, Florida speed and athleticism… there is a REASON schools put time and attention into this. What combos would you like to see this year? What uni features that we haven’t used, would you like to see incorporated? (cue - “bama wins and they don’t change their uniforms? “ I just wanna see blue tops, white bottoms, orange helmets” and the tried and true “if we win it doesn’t matter what we wear” ) Gotchya- this thread is for those of us that do #getoffmylawn
I just want the old style numbers back. The current font looks awful, specifically the 6, 8, and 9. There are way too many "points". And I agree it would be nice to go back to a slightly darker shade of blue on the jerseys. We have an awesome traditional look, but a little variety is a good thing. Black shirts and pants for a night game that will be auctioned off to raise money for a good cause (whatever Napier mentioned, I forget) would be OK once a year. I think everyone would love the 60's throwbacks becoming a yearly tradition for the homecoming game. Other than that, we don't need to do too much different IMO. Mix in the orange or blue pants more often, especially when paired with the road whites. Maybe wear the orange shirts once a year. Blue or white hats every now and then would be fine. We can already do a lot of good looking combinations without going crazy. I just hope we never stray from our classic uniform template for something "modern" (tacky). And don't mess with the classic Gators script on the helmets (other than the throwback, of course). I wasn't a big fan of the "Speed F" when we did that, and as much as I like the current "Gator head" and retro "surprised Albert" logos, leave them off the helmets.
Just looking at the '23 schedule, if it were up to me, this is what I would do.... at Utah: Orange helmet, white jersey, blue pants vs McNeese: Orange, blue, white (traditional look for the home opener) vs Tennessee: Blue, blue, blue vs Charlotte: Orange, blue, white at Kentucky: Orange, white, orange vs Vanderbilt: White, blue, white (late 60's throwbacks) at S. Carolina: White, white, white Georgia: Orange, blue, white (UGA can wear their home jerseys too) vs Arkansas: Orange, black, black at LSU: Orange, orange, white at Missouri: Orange, white, orange vs FSU: Orange, blue, blue
I agree with this. I don’t think we need tacky or gimmicky stuff but we need to switch it up a bit. And in the end, it doesn’t matter what I want… it’s what the kids want and what’s good for recruiting
Theoretically, pretty much everyone gets what they want in this scenario. We're still wearing the traditional home uniforms more than any other combo, the standard helmets for 75% of our games, and a nice variety without going crazy like the stupid "gator skin" things we wore a few years back. White pants with the white road jerseys is probably my least favorite combo, but going with a white helmet makes them cooler. I wish we wore the orange pants more often, especially on the road. But I think they look cool paired with the home blues too.... I like it when we wear predominantly orange against Kentucky, and more blue against Tennessee. I don't think we have ever done blue/blue/blue before, but I think it looks OK, and the stadium could even do a "blue out" if we want.... ^ Not the best picture, but it's all I could find
Here's a decent comparison between the number fonts. Notice the "inner" part of the numbers form a hexagon...... The old numbers...... The old numbers look sooooo much better. Unfortunately, someone had the bright idea to bastardize the classic block number style into our "speed" font. It just doesn't work. I also like both our 90's and mid-2000's name fonts better than what we have now, but that's probably more for nostalgic reasons than anything else.
I'd be happy if we could just look like a team instead of a bunch of disorganized kids with their white T-shirts hanging out. Is it really too much to ask that we look like a team. And tuck those undershirts in your freaking pants? Lol. I know that sounds crazy but damn, we look so much better when we look like one team of players... and not like a bunch of (look at me) players on a team... And fat boys... tuck the jelly roll in too.
First off, get off my lawn. They can wear tutu’s for all I care as long as they kick the gumps and puppies ass. If the kids like it, let ‘em have it. If they wear tutu’s though, they better win.
Yep, there's a reason why pretty much every football team that tried to radically update their look, whether it's college or pro, is reverting back some variation of their classic/traditional uniform.
The winners aren’t up for the gimmicks so much and teams that are worried about their tutu’s don’t win much.
It's no coincidence that the Buccaneers won a Super Bowl the moment they ditched those terrible looking digs from the Winston era. Nooo, it wasn't because of Tom Brady, it was definitely the uniforms! Yeah, I understand there's zero correlation between the way a team looks, and the way they play. But it's not mutually exclusive. Nobody on the team really "worries" about the jerseys, but uniform talk doesn't take anything away from the product on the field. It's not like spending time/money/focus on jerseys takes away time/money/focus that would be spent on the players or coaches or whatever. We can play good AND look good too. And even if we lose, well, we might as well look good while doing it!
Get off my team... Lol. But yes winning is the number one mission. But looking good, and like a team, is not a bad thing, youngster.
Looking like circus clowns isn’t a good look for football players in my opinion. Some of the teams look ridiculous
Not opposed, except the black thing. It's just so cliche' and lame. So UM. Adds nothing and you look like complete punks if you wear those (and hype it up) and then lose.
Yeah I don't care for it either, but Napier said they were coming as soon as they could get them. He said the black jerseys would be auctioned off with the proceeds going to injured veterans or something like that.
