By: Eric Fawcett -- April 16, 2023 The Gators once again added to their frontcourt on Sunday night as it was announced that Seton Hall center Tyrese Samuel would be taking his talents to Gainesville. Center Tyrese Samuel Commits To Florida | GatorCountry.com
Nice pickup. Really improved our size and depth at Center and PF positions. Can improve our physicality, rebounding, blocked shots and D with these recent signings and transfers
Hopefully at least one department where we improve over Castleton, probably lose scoring and shot blocking as Castleton was especially elite there, but both these C additions may actually be better rebounders. In either case, we now have a legit rotation of bigs instead of Castleton and nothing. Just the fact that we have 2 players should help with the grind of the season.
He's really been impressive. Maybe the biggest surprise so far. I hope I don't offend by comparing him to Horford. Not there overall yet but shown that potential, especially on that coast to coast against Pitt. Maybe doesn't have the same quickness or range but smoothe in the paint. Glad he's a Gator!
He cemented how great his potential is tonight. I wish he would’ve gotten more touches instead of us getting a little too guard-happy with the shot selection. Baylor helped out every time he touched the ball in the 2nd half so they gave him the respect he deserves.
One good thing we can take away from last night is that the Gators are good at going big or going small. I think CTG will use this like a change-up pitch. Surprise the opponent by playing big for a few minutes, then small for a few minutes.
Samuel has that natural look to his play. He'll be a handfull for opposing players to manage. Amazing boost with him Pullen and Clayton from the portal.
