We aren’t done yet! But yes, Kugel has to be focused a little better and be in control, if he is going to be the pg. I believe he will spend minutes at the two and three positions.
Maybe. I haven't seen any special passing ability from him yet, though, and I'd be reluctant to taking the scoring load away from him anyway. I want a top PG finding him open or breaking to the hoop.
A quick look at Seton Hall and Tyrese. They went 17-16 against a tough schedule this season, and 10-10 in the Big East. Of particular note, they beat UConn 77-76 in a home game. Tyrese went for 9 points and 7 boards in 27 minutes against that beast of a UConn front line. He had 16 and 4 in a later 9-point loss at UConn. The man can play at a high level.
I am surprised. I thought that he had the best vision and was the best passer on the team this past season.
Good teams may have a preferred tempo but can win in the half court or running. Rebounding and interior defense can be accomplished in a number of ways but are essential to winning. Samuel should be a darn nice piece of the puzzle
I love slow wins. My biggest complaint about Muschamp was the losses. The pace of play was fine. That win against LSU (ranked #4 going in) where we just pounded them into submission was a thing of beauty. The 06 and 07 teams could do this at a high level. Let them run and Noah would be happy to lead the fast break Make them grind it out, and we had the best passing big men and deadly outside shooting.
I listened to the last Florida Basketball Hour podcast with Eric and Neil and they raved about Samuel. This was before he even signed, although he was down to 2 teams. Immediate starter at C and will be able to play with any other bigs in the SEC. Highly underrated transfer and huge W for TG. They said Micah will be more of a 15 minute guy but will have 2 years after that to start. Now if we could just get Perry, we may have a really good team next year. Still might be good, but get Perry and we'll be very tough to guard next year with all of these shooters (Clayton, Richards and Perry all 40+% 3-point shooters).
Funny, but those guys talked incessantly about Golden's desire to play two in, three out last year. Now they expect Samuel to start with Handlogten, Scymzcyk, and Condon all backing him up (effectively splitting 15 mpg) while Jarvis starts at the four and is backed up by Haugh? If we had Fudge rotating with Jarvis, okay, but I fully expect Samuel to get half his minutes at the four alongside Handlogten or one of the others. Golden has repeatedly talked about the effectiveness of two bigs when it comes to scoring in the paint offensively, protecting the paint defensively, and rebounding at both ends.
I have to think that Golden told Samuel that he could play at the 4 or at least as a 5 who could step out to the 3-point line. Samuel told the Seton Hall coaches that he was a 4, but they told him that he needed to play the 5 for the sake of the team. My guess is that he will play both positions. I don’t think that anyone can predict the rotation right now, and that includes Golden (who couldn’t figure out the rotation last year until half the season was over).
