6-6 with AR, got absolutely mauled in the bowl game without him. Same bowl game that showed how bad the talent around him was.

Now we have 2 QB's that struggle to throw a football 50 yards in the air...but they are very accurate on 10 yard passes.

The defensive box is going to be very crowded next year.

He may be the number one pick but he was nowhere near the best qb in college football. He has potential

Richardson didn't do everything he could in my opinion. But was still by far the best player on the team. Not a lot changes with him risking his health more last season. Not going to blame him for it.

One more season? What about one more game? One more game where your backup was arrested and you knew your team faced disaster against, of all things, a miserable PAC-12 team. What about not mailing it in against teams like Vanderbilt?

    One more season!

He threw for 400 yards against Vandy and we lost...

The team was terrible. Going to take a lot of rebuilding. He was one of the few bright spots and I don't blame him for protecting himself. Did I enjoy it when he didn't pull it for a run when he could? No. But it wasn't exactly a championship on the line.

That question will be answered in the next 1-2 seasons. Then we’ll have a look back at the 2022 season and see if the season’s failures were all ARs fault, which seems to be the common consensus around here.

We have a bunch of not so bright football minds around here that are just butthurt a player who will get drafted highly was merely good instead of great while having 1 year in an offensive system with major questions allaying with an overall talent deficient team.

  8. He's not even 21. It's all potential because of measureables, running ability, and arm strength. Maybe he'll develop accuracy and the ability to read an NFL defense (no small feat) and maybe not. Wish we had another year of him but those are the breaks.

Let’s not pretend AR was some qb savant who happened to be surrounded by scrubs. AR was part of the problem many times. His KY game was probably the worst qb play I have seen. He followed that up with another one with USF.

The main problem last year wasn’t the O, it was the D.

AR has the measurables to be the home run draft pick this year. Teams can always pick up a serviceable qb through FA or perhaps more polished qbs coming out. It’s really not a massive reach for teams to take a chance. The payoff could be huge and if he’s a bust, then just add it to the scores of other picks out of the league by year 4.

The Browns wasted a couple decades on qbs and never going much. Good ones are rare. Busts in the first round really hurt a franchise. One thing is for sure though, you must have a top 10 qb to be successful.

Yes. He was merely good, not great. He wasn’t consistently good either. Great sometimes, bad others. Aggregates out to good. He was still the offensive MVP and was worst case the 4th best offensive player (Torrence, Johnson, ETN). If he was surrounded by equivalently playing players (good) we lose maybe 2-3 regular season games.

The defense was the major problem as you mentioned.

Many people here are somehow taking it out on AR that the NFL will draft him highly when his performance wasn’t great. How exactly is that ARs fault?

And this thread is hilariously awful. People are upset because he’s prepared for a job interview? Of course he’s going to say he’s prepared and dreamed all his life for this chance. When he becomes a starter he will say the same thing about that.

I just don’t get the hate for a player that played hurt, gave it his all, but somehow the NFL believes his potential is greater than his production. The horror

Offhand: genetic freak like the NFL has never seen. Twenty years old. Only 13 college starts under his belt.

Just curious but please point out “hate” for AR on this thread? Seriously, I and others are questioning AR as a top 5 pick in the first round. Reasons range from on field performance to him stating that the NFL was his focus.

It is ridiculous that we cannot civilly discuss opinions, positive and some questioning, without those questioning being “haters” or in the words of another poster above - “butt hurt” (ridiculous). I certainly have not referred to any AR top pick advocates as “sunshine pumpers” or the like, and most who question AR also say they hope he succeeds wildly in spite of top 5 pick doubts they might express.

Different opinions are not bad, saying you think someone’s opinion is incorrect is not bad. Assaulting another person’s character based on their opinion needs to be well founded on that opinion clearly proving out the character flaw being alleged (ie, calling somebody who uses a racial slur a bigot). Challenging, or defending, AR as a top 5 draft pick does not seem to rise to the point of assaulting anybody’s character when nobody has proclaimed him a no hope player or a sure fire hall of famer.

Id love to see AR leading his team to multiple super bowls wins but I just don’t see it. There’s no bad will towards him but physically attributes don’t really translate to being an outstanding qb.

Need larger sample size. And besides, consistency was the issue. He was spectacular vs Utah. Awful vs KY. Good enough vs LSU and FSU but defense was the problem.

He’s worth a shot for sure but top picks have a ton of value and I wouldn’t take a flyer if I was a gm.

Are you serious? Multiple posts saying how he quit, didn’t care about winning, should go to the XFL…

Please identify the “multiple posts saying he quit” or “should go to the xfl.” I read thru the thread and saw one comment I thought over the top about AR “mailing it in.” To answer your question, yes I am serious. The question I ask back is “are you informed?”

I disagree with Matt06 on a lot concerning AR. But, to be fair, he didn't specify in which thread he saw the posts he's referencing. There are posts in the thread "AR should be picked overall #1" that say pretty much what he is claiming.
