Frankly I’m just tired of this same conversation again and again and again. It’s clearly a gun issue. If you can’t admit that at this point then you are being dishonest.
The victim’s aunt made a video saying the victim was shot once, fell down, and then was shot again for good measure. I’m not going to post the link because it will introduce another aspect to this story that will cause some posters to deflect and derail more than they’re already doing. You’re free to look it up yourself though.
What common sense gun law would have prevented this? We don’t know what type of gun was used ( at least I don’t). If it was the common every day 9mm are you for banning all 9mm semi automatic hand guns along with the “weapons of war”? Should we throw shotguns in there as well? We have almost no real facts about what happened but several want to blame guns. If this is truly the heinous unprovoked slaying it looks like this isn’t a gun issue. It’s a person issue. A monster issue.
Like I said. Dishonest. Are we the only country on earth with monsters? Why does this only happen here? Until you are ready to be honest I’m done with this back and forth.
I agree. And in this case it appears to be a heinous murder. But I would argue that more times than not gun owners DINT fire their weapons. More times than not they are responsible and careful. We don’t hear about those.. why would we. It’s the monsters walking among us that murder innocent children on their doorsteps… that’s the real issue. I can’t wrap my head around why this happened. It’s terrible.
That’s good with me. You can’t or won’t answer what laws would have prevented this slaying. Short of banning and confiscating all firearms in the US … Or we could have an honest discussion about why his happened. How it happened. What is happening in the US to cause this? We have always had a ton of guns. What has changed. Our society. Our drug use? Our work-0holic culture? More tha. Just guns separate the us from other countries. Let’s look at where most mass shootings iccur. Who is doing it? Why?
Once again and just for clarity. The first sentence of the article: KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — A teenager is recovering after being shot outside of a Kansas City, Missouri, home Thursday evening. Police believe it was a case of mistaken identity.
Big shocker black teen in a white neighborhood. His crime was ringing a doorbell. https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article274380535.html
I think ridge is being a bit polemic with his prose, but his point is valid. There are only two simple algorithmic options here: 1) No guns for anyone ever, and 2) Any guns for anyone whenever. Since no real human actually advocates either of these extreme positions, we are left to parse differences in degrees rather than kinds of solutions. This is no trivial task, as the diverse mix of values and science that must go into this cocktail will never be of satisfactory flavor for all. Whatever limits we set for the bearing of arms, they will be arbitrary and lead to negative outcomes. This isn’t to say that our current law is the best possible, but I do think whatever is the best one is still going to be very ugly.
You know details don't matter to the Leftists when they are totally against our laws like the Second Amendment. There is no reason to even consider. But having said that, I find it hard to mitigate shooting a young-ish person at your front door. I hope the kid is okay.
I read that statement in another article. However, just to be clear, I do not believe that info was in the article linked in the OP. What is a bit difficult to understand is .... why someone who would shoot an unarmed person standing at the shooter's front door not be held by police. I read the police were waiting to obtain a victim's statement but in the circumstances, it may be quite a while before the victim can do that.
It appears based on some comments I’ve seen, the shooter was in his 80’s. Old elderly white guy shoots black teenager. I’d suggest in the vast majority of ‘Murica the police do nothing unless community protest forces their hand. You ask the question like that’s something unusual. Before social media it would get swept under the rug. You do occasionally hear of crazy f’ers shooting the mailman or census takers at their front door and being taken down for it. But a black teenager? Nah. *If* it’s true the guy shot him once, then again while he’s on the ground, that should make his malice evident. But we’ll see as more comes out. It’s possible this guy is senile or had legitimate fear. It may even be difficult to prosecute such a person. So under the 2A and in these gun crazed states going to permitless carry, what happens to such crazed individuals who sit in their homes living in constant fear?
Photos show kids as young as 6 handling guns at the NRA's annual meeting. Gun violence is the leading cause of death among children.
I think that's the relevant question here. And the answer is none. I'm certainly in favor of stricter gun laws. But the only law that could have prevented this was banning personal gun ownership. And that ain't happening.
Mental evaluations for a gun permit at regular intervals... If the guy was 80 and showing a cognitive or psychological decline, take his guns away...
In fact I just heard he has been released from the hospital - radio headline. apparently so https://fox4kc.com/news/kansas-city-teen-released-from-hospital-after-being-shot-by-homeowner/ good news
