Along that line, back when the Miami Dolphins were going to back to back to back Super Bowls they lost most if not all their preseason games. I think the year they went 17-0 they were 0-4 in the preseason.
Disagree that this Spring game doesn’t matter. IMO, this is a program & a fan base in need of some excitement & enthusiasm. It didn’t deliver
Uh...not quite what happened in real life...his defensive coordinator "LEFT" (thankfully) for the NFL. He likely would have been back this year. He didn't make any decision to fire the DC nor did he go looking for one before the DC left. You cant give him credit for making a tuff decision when the decision wasn't his to make. Big difference! Now if the new 29 year old DC gets us playing Gator defense like we have been used to for decades then give Napier credit for making a great hire...if he craps the bed then we can suggest otherwise.
How do you know? Unless you're well-connected within the UF Athletic Dept you have no idea if Patrick Toney was advised to look elsewhere or if he left on his own. Seems pretty coincidental that the one member of the coaching staff receiving the most criticism was the guy who miraculously was courted by the NFL. But hey, if you're down on CBN it works better to take what little you know and paint the most unfavorable picture possible, which is exactly what you're doing. "You cant give him credit for making a tuff decision when the decision wasn't his to make". LMAO - It appears that you can't give him credit for anything.
Well that game was a snoozefest. Takeaways: - Didn't expect much, but the offense never really made any plays outside of the Burke Prothro catch which was more of a fluke play. - Tough to judge anything from the game. I think we can see that we will largely be a running football team. Probably try to control the clock and win games in the 4th quarter. Outside of McNeese and Charlotte, don't expect any blowout wins. - RB's will be good, but running into stacked lines will be tough. Glad we have depth, because we will need it. - Mizell and Jean should move everyone down the depth chart not named Ricky Pearsall. Not because I think they are all world (thought they looked good though), but because without Mizell and Jean this is probably the worst WR unit in the SEC. I won't rant, but I said all offseason for BN to get a block burner on the outside in the portal. He goofed around and didn't address it. Not wise imo. - QB "battle" isn't much of a battle. Mertz is clearly the starter. He is what he is though so I'm not banking on him doing much for us other than handing the ball off and hitting a couple play action throws. I have seen Miller since his spring game at Ohio St. Always came away thinking the same thing "he isn't as talented as the guys he is competing against." Now he doesn't look miles behind Mertz, but that says more about Mertz than Miller. - Not sure where the buzz is about getting another QB in the portal is coming from. Who would we get? And whoever comes in will be way behind the other QB's as they haven't had a spring practice to go through. If we were to get someone I would assume it would be some career backup type as Max Brown doesn't look close to game ready. - Young pups on defense look good. Just a spring game, but they look like they belong at UF. Haven't always been able to say that.
I watched the replay and feel a little better. The offense needs work. The defenses did swarm. But take away the fake sacks and it’s not quite so lopsided.
List of who is on Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon's staff Ironic that the two position coaches Gator fans had issues with found jobs on the new Arizona Cardinals staff. Former TE coach also on their staff with Toney
You can’t win a spring game. I agree SOS wanted to win and spring games are just scrimmages without even the starting lineups playing. They don’t mean much.
If the score had been 45-42 most of the same ones complaining about the offense would be griping about the defense. You can't get a true measure of either under the conditions they played the exhibition Thursday night.
Maybe old Joey Freshwater will win something other than laughs on twitter one day. What’s his record against us as a head coach?
