On3 actually has an article up with quotes from Handlogten with him committing to Uf. They jump the gun? (That site often does).
Correct....Micah just committed!!! And you don't hear this everyday from a recruit: "The facilities are absolutely beautiful and the amenities the student athletes have down there are insane. I loved the players, I loved the coaches and got to build relationships with all of them. I absolutely love it there."
I'm glad the kid said that, UF has spent some money on facilities upgrades and I'm sure UF likes the positive feedback.
Hahaha. Yes, those are pretty important. Personally, I don't see Fudge playing at the three primarily. He was actually really coming along in December and January before the injury. Moving exceptionally well off the ball, getting out on the break, active off the ball defensively. But he never got back in a rhythm, and it didn't help when CC went out because those two complemented each other very well.
Great news. Coach taking big steps to address a major concern for next year. We have a functional team now. A true point guard would be nice, but feeling much better about next year now.
"We are thrilled that Micah has decided to join our program here at the University of Florida," Golden said. "Micah had a great freshman year at Marshall, and we believe he is just starting to scratch the surface in terms of his upside. He's a proven rim protector, rebounder, and rim finisher and we believe he has the capacity to expand his game – specifically on the offensive end. He's a great young man from a great family and is a great match for the culture we are continuing to build within our program."
Portal takes like this really check all the boxes: - fills an immediate need at center - analytics show him addressing some existing weaknesses (rebounding, 2pt efficiency) - only a sophomore withe three years to develop in the system Same basic profile as Richard and Fudge last season.
Why is no one concerned that this kid is 7'1" and 227 lbs. He is 2" taller than Colin and 15 Lbs lighter. I think it is naive to think he won't get pushed around by most SEC bigs. Similar size to Bediako at Bama (listed at 7' and 225).
I would rather have someone 2 inches taller and 15 lbs lighter at center. Will an elite, more physical big back him down on occasion? Or muscle him out of position on the glass? Sure. But, almost certainly, Handlogten will be several inches taller, and it's not easy to shoot or rebound over someone taller in the paint. It would be different if we were talking about playing against guys who are the same height, but weigh substantially more. Plus, it's not like Bediako as a parallel was exactly bad. He went for 6-6-2 on 66% shooting in 20 mpg for the best team in the league and the top-seeded team in the tourney. And if you look at the advanced metrics, he was their best offensive rebounder, second most efficient scorer, best rim protector, and had--by far--their best defensive plus-minus (and second best overall). If we get something approximating that over, say, 25 minutes (and probably about the same as what Handlogten got at Marshall last year: 8-9-2), I will be thrilled.
It’s 7 months until tip off. If the kid puts on 10 pounds of muscle per month, which seems reasonable to me, he will be at 295 by tip-off time.
