I noticed he did it in reverse order. I bet he walked to 1B on the single...lol

Obscure rules question here. Say a batter already has a homer, double and single and really wants the cycle and hits one fair over the wall. Can the batter intentionally not touch home plate and get a triple?

I guess that it requires the opposing team to do the correct appeal play for the out to get it so it isn't automatic.

    Neither.

I know it is a stupid question because the hitter doing it would be severely taken to task by his coaching staff and teammates, but it is a kind of a backwards way to get a cycle and not one to be proud of. Hitting for the cycle to the detriment of your team is not cool. If the player had something in his MLB contract for a big bonus for hitting for a cycle things get murky.

I like to think about all the weird things that can happen in baseball. My youngest son saw the Gators beat Georgia in extra innings with a walk off dropped third strike. It took me a long time to explain to him the rules about it but he eventually got it and it made sense to him and and has been a baseball fan ever since.

Several years ago I think an NBA player, maybe with the Heat, purposely missed close in shots so he could rebound them and eventually score to get a triple double

If appealed I dont see how it wouldnt be a triple. Guess you could technically do that on any base on a HR..lol If need a single ,miss 2b.

Miss 2nd and then the appeal play is at second and it becomes a single.
