Good: Height and decent numbers for a one-year player; has plural years of eligibility
Less good: Will need to develop rapidly to compete with SEC centers; needs to improve FTs

Would love for this kid to become Castleton 2.0 plus has some extra height. Do we need a backup center still if we get Handlogten? I realize Jarvis can play the five, but he's more ideally suited to the four in the SEC. I'm thinking a backup C, a PG who is ready to play, and maybe one more wing and our roster will be complete.

With that, some will be really excited and ready to say it's an improved roster. After the last two years, though, I'm compelled to pump the brakes. I thought we were a tourney team at the start of the last two seasons and was proven wrong.

This is just the start of CTG's program building and some patience is likely necessary.

We have two coming in as true freshmen. Plus Jarvis and Shimmy.

I agree . . . with everything. I also say take as many as we can get and let them settle who gets PT in practice and games. I want kids who want to compete, not just with other teams but intra-squad; and that used to be a good "problem" to have. I'm pretty sure Coach Golden will really pursue a true PG.

If we get the Seton Hall kid plus this kid, we will have 7 players at the 4 and 5. That could leave us thin at the 1-3, unless Jarvis, Fudge and/or Haugh can play the 3.

If we get this guy he should set us up pretty well at the 5. I like that he’s a rebounding beast with multiple years eligibility. He might not be near the overall player that Castleton was, but in the rebounding department there’s a chance he really brings something there.

Of course it would be nice to add an insta-starter at the 4 too, but I think Jarvis and Fudge are going to compete there (and we have to hope either Fudge improves as he goes on or Jarvis brings a more complete well rounded game).

The biggest need, if indeed we got our 5, is the PG spot which is actually still a desperate need.

If we look at our hypothetical lineup, we now have pretty well locked in starters at the 2,3,5 with guys who should at least be upper half SEC starters. With the 1 still being wide open to anyone, and the 4 having 2 players likely competing for minutes but probably not a guy in the upper half of SEC starters at the position.

I’d be surprised if we got both the Marshall guy and the Seton hall guy. Maybe it’s a “first one to commit” type deal? Though obviously as of now our roster has *zero* proven front court players. Having twin towers would be amazing. But like you say, the numbers might not add up.

Is it too early to start printing 2024 Gators Final Four t shirts?

I think Jarvis is an insta starter at the four. He can be a five at FL in a small ball lineup, but we should be playing him at the four. Think of him in Felder's spot, but more ready to contribute.

I think he’s probably got the edge, but his numbers at Yale were hardly eye popping so it’s hard to say how that translates to the SEC. If he can play 20 minute a game and avg about 10 and 5 - coming close to his production last year - that would be a clear upgrade to the 4 spot (where we were getting almost nada). But I think people expected Felder to translate, and even from the ACC it didn’t happen.

It’s a given that Jarvis would have started for us at the 4 this past season. That would have resulted in a starting lineup prior to CC’s injury of CC, Jarvis, Richard, Kugel and Lofton. That’s a pretty good lineup.

His stats on a per-40 minute basis were outstanding. I don’t know why he didn’t play more.

People have argued that Fudge is a true "3" , which we will see for certain if these transfers come through.

He almost certainly won't be as good as a sophomore than Castleton was as a senior. But here's the key thing; he was better as a freshman than CC was as a freshman.

They keep saying he is 6’8”, but I think he is closer to 6’7”, Jarvis. he is a competitor though, a glue guy that can score around the basket. A power forward to complement to a good center.
