That is just unspeakably short-sighted - like it's laughable that you are such a partisan sheeple that you would gleefully support decisions you obviously don't fully understand just because it's a republican controlled government doing it.
The fact is there are many blacks and/or Democrats who disagree with the basic premise of CRT. And in no way does it mean that person, or anyone else who disagrees with the theory, is a racist. Personally, I disagree with CRT. I do not agree with the notion that today’s racial inequality is the sole fault of whites nor do I believe it is the sole responsibility of whites to solve. And to me, blaming your problems on other people- based on their race- is the last thing we should be teaching children in this country. Whether or not you like Rufo (and admittedly I don’t spend a lot of time following the guy), I don’t see much in the article that is not factual. You can say you think the recent DEI emphasis at UF is a good thing but it doesn’t mean someone who does not agree is a racist.
Very clear that you don't have much understanding of critical race theory. Looks like Rufo succeeded in his goals of misinforming Republicans. There's a lot in the article that isn't "factual." Much of it is disingenuous commentary. And if you're going to claim Rufo isn't a racist, give us a statement that is not such a gigantic equivocation.
With team GOP it’s it’s a safe bet to ascribe the worst intentions/motivations wrt what they say. You’ll rarely be disappointed and usually it’s worse than you think. this does usually not apply to GOP’s who recently became independents, but 20-25% of the electorate are total shitheads.
This is a staggering comment paired with your last post. You’re admitting that you’re anti-intellectual and actually view it as a negative. It’s hard to take anyone seriously that believes the pursuit of knowledge is a not a first-tier goal for humanity. Your prior post is essentially Andrew Tate claiming books are for people with slow brains.
Most people are well enough informed to understand that it's intellectual academia. Other than a few classes where it's called for, politics are left aside.
Life will go on. The bubble is strong for those who can’t see through it though. The over dramatic comments are par for the course. It’s gonna be okay guys, UF doesn’t necessarily have to attract the top nerds for you to feel good about yourselves.
Don't agree with dei and crt, anti intellectual. Don't agree with sex being pushed on 6 year olds, anti gay. Don't agree with kids taking a rushed covid vaccine, anti vax. Don't like trans propaganda constantly shoved in your face, anti Christian...on and on. Party of nuance, LOL.
Well done man. Sometimes I need others to say what I’m trying to say. I couldn’t have stated it better. Thank you. Happy Easter.
"life will go on" / "it's not the end of the world" are really weak ass arguments that demonstrate a lack of thought on the subject, IMO. Especially for a message board where the whole point is to debate what is happening. Of course it isn't the end of the world. Of course life will go on. It wasn't the end of the world when Trump was elected, or Biden. etc. No shit. However, the world is a complex system with interconnected parts. The decisions that are being made here that impact on a large system that goes beyond some "liberal education bubble." https://cefa.fsu.edu/sites/g/files/upcbnu1851/files/FSUS Final Report 6-30-2021 Clean_0.pdf In academic year 2018-19, the Florida State University System (SUS) had overall enrollment of over 346,604 students and awarded 93,961 academic degrees, including 69,928 bachelors, 18,854 masters, 2,984 doctoral, and 2,195 professional (specialist) degrees. The present value of increased lifetime (30 year) earnings by SUS graduates who remain in the State in comparison to high school graduates was estimated at $39.1 billion in 2019 dollars. The Florida SUS employed 83,864 persons directly in 2020, including faculty, staff, student workers, auxiliaries, and component unit organizations. Total applicable expenditures within the state by all Florida SUS-related entities totaled $16.64 billion in 2019-20. Total economic contributions of Florida SUS institution operating expenditures, sales and services of component units, capital expenditures and nonresident student spending included 359,042 fulltime and part-time jobs, and $33.53 billion in industry output or revenues (Table ES1). Value added contributions of $22.37 billion to Florida’s Gross State Product were comprised of $15.85 billion in labor income to employees and business owners, $5.45 billion in other property income, and $1.07 billion in indirect business taxes to local, state, and federal governments. Employment contributions of the Florida SUS represented 2.03 percent of the total state workforce, and value added contributions represented 2.84 percent of the Gross State Product in 2019. It is projected that graduates who remain in Florida in each degree category will continue to add value to Florida’s economy by virtue of their lifetime earnings. Thus, it’s estimated that the present value of lifetime earnings attributed to SUS graduates in Florida totals $39.1 billion over the next 30 years, or approximately $1.3 billion annually in 2019 dollars, as shown in Table 7. So wake up sleepy head. This isn't life and death - but it matters way beyond our "liberal" bubble.
I’m sure it matters dearly to you and the peers you associate with. But to guys like me, not so much. Culture is as important to me as academics. I’m not even going to bother encouraging my kids to look into UF. I don’t think the experience is worth the trouble any longer.
What you said here makes no sense at all. 1. What trouble? 2. Isn't the point of all this legislation to kill any talk of systemic racism at State of Florida Universities? If so, why would you avoid UF - kind of defeats the purpose right? 3. You understand people go to University to find culture too - right? 4. Are you going to rob your kids of one of the best economic advantages money can buy or do you just mean you'll send them to a school that, in your humble opinion, doesn't talk about race at all? If so good luck on that one lol. 5. You understand I have several conservative peers INSIDE higher ed that think these bills are garbage too, right? this is not just a liberal vs. conservative issue. This is ultimately, a free society/government overreach issue so plenty of conservatives are not supportive.
THIS. The radical faction of the republican party had a plan to make positive acronyms that progressives use (including the word progressive) negative, and it has worked well. There must be a very large group emblast that goes out. The same one that was exposed during the 2016 campaign. Scary that they can manipulate like that.
