I can share the same stories. Forestry just missed on like 5 top candidates and hired a fresh 26 year old PhD out of their own program because they were out of options. Associate dean in CLAS told me they went 7-9 deep in some recent searches for the first time ever and then had to cancel the searches. It’s bad out there. edit - I can add that nationally I know someone who turned down a spot at FSU they really liked to go elsewhere specifically because of the politics. Same with someone that went to Virginia tech instead of Uf. it will take longer to see effects in STEM but as soon as nih and others start punishing Florida for their stance on dei and send those grants elsewhere believe me you’ll see hiring issues there too.
People ignore trolls. You’ve been shown a thousand times exactly how you are wrong and you choose to ignore it and plow ahead anyway. Nobody here has any obligation to continue to engage with you especially when you act in bad faith.
Another interesting thing to consider - Uf has 3 dean positions open which will require the new provost to help hire - old one retiring july. So… given all this political bullshit that raises questions about the quality of senior leadership Uf is going to be able to hire.
If you weren’t such a partisan I’d put more stock in your post. But for me, I’d prefer another source of info before I take your word as gospel.
Good to know I am not a troll. You keep communicating. Though with no substance. And there is a difference in ignoring and blocking people so you do not challenge yourself. I am glad you are not like some of your friends on the left.
This is all so disheartening to read... We assume since this is a University of Florida Gators board, that the vast majority of posters are going to be alumni and actually care about the academic side of our school. I suspect that's not the case with many who support DeSantis' "meddling" (to be polite) with our state's university system, they could give a rat's ass about academics. Now, if DeSantis dares to do something that impacts recruiting, all Holy hell will break out.
Lol the earth isn’t flat either but since I vote for democrats I guess you should get a second opinion. Bury your head in the sand if you wish.
look a couple posts up. People just don’t want to believe it’s a problem. Put it another way. Not a ton of 4 and 5 star professors out there. Uf is going to be losing those and will eventually be forced to take chances on 3 stars. Those positions will eventually be filled - but yeah- quality is going to dip.
it’s stuff like this (repeated twice on this thread) that keeps you on my rotation. Also you have not been told you’re not a troll.
In case you are able to see this: wow! That’s a lot. I don’t have anyone blocked though there are some posts I read with a great deal more interest than others. edit: I take that back. I do have one poster from the football game threads blocked. It’s been so many years I’d forgotten but he was such an overwhelmingly negative and prolific A-hole poster it just had to be done. He may not even be there anymore but I’m not taking the chance.
just because I don’t have you on ignore doesn’t mean you’re not a troll. Not surprising that’s your take away though given your inability to understand anything.
Maybe quality on the football field will improve. I’ll sacrifice a few nerds for the improvement over the entire university any day. This place looks nothing like it did when I was there in the 90s. I’m good with the changes. Only nerds give a damn about the rankings and research areas. UF will always be a quality university. No need to freak out.
So you admit you’re in the minority. Maybe you should frequent “strong minded” boards. Like Parler or 4chan
I don’t hate idiots too many of them would take way to long and they don’t do to much damage due to their mental infirmities.
Can we say “I view you as a troll but I could be wrong”? It’s a matter of personal perception not declaratory. This would work well with snowflake (asking for a friend) as well? I presume moron, dbag and Carlin’s seven other words might be verboten.
For the record, I think @QGator2414 is a good father, and I'm always impressed when I consider his willingness to let her shine and support his wife in her work.
