Just gonna leave this here. DEI Captures the University of Florida | City Journal (city-journal.org) Why post this? It is about a controversial topic directly related to the University of Florida. Is what is cited in the piece what we, as alumni or fans, want for UF?
Please note this board rule: Q. Initial posts must contain original comment from the person starting a thread. An initial post containing only a linked headline, meme, or quote will be deleted if it does not also include an original comment from the person starting the thread on why the OPster thinks the posted topic worthy of discussion or debate. Comments must be more substantial than an inane, "This is interesting." Poster is required to expand on what's interesting about the topic being posted
Rufo is a racist, and DeSantis appears to be right there with him. For all practical purposes, I had never heard of Woke and DEI until those terms started to be used by the right. I did participate in sensitivity training when asked to do so by my law firm, but these labels weren’t attached to it. Institutions should be proud to be Woke and to take DEI into account in their operations.
This is the new version of the southern strategy... being openly opposed to "inclusion" and "diversity" isn't even as abstract as Lee Atwater talking about using "program cuts" as a code for the n-word ....
I had to click on the link just to find out what DEI means. I've developed some acrimony for acronyms. I still can't remember what the sequence of letters is for LGBTQIA, as many times as I've seen it. (I had to cut and paste to write the acronym here.) I have enough trouble with "person, man, woman, camera, TV."
Where in that piece is a racist comment? This is how the Left debates. "I don't like what is written, so the author is [racist, a Nazi, etc.]." Try coming up with something substantive.
So something Richard Spencer writes discredits an article by Christopher Rufo. So you couldn't find anything in the article yourself.
The entire thing. The idea that DEI has "captured" UF is laughable. Almost as laughable as when Rufo the Clown and the rest of the demagogues DeSantis put on the New College BOT commissioned a report on the DEI office at New College, which ended up proving them completely wrong in all their criticisms. (They then dismantled the office and fired the DEI director because it's not about facts.)
Now that's a serious critique. And you understand why it's appealing to me? What do you know about me?
You posted an article from a man who openly admits he misleads and lies to further the Republican culture war, and you're surprised people aren't taking it seriously? Are you going to next post an article from Ted Cruz complaining about the Democrats and then wonder why nobody is swayed by it? People on this board who actually work at UF have already called out this nonsense.
Can we really ignore who wrote the article, or should we just take it as gospel? Can you, for example, point to evidence that this is true? I'm not saying it isn't true, I just don't know. Do you?
