Seems the Pubs never met a voter they didn't want to disenfranchise. They hate the concept of the public voting in general.

So when you ask a smart ass question, it's just good old American humor and when someone responds in kind, they are being a smart ass? Odd alternative universe you have selected for your abode.

    https://www.orlandoweekly.com/news/...ntrol-gives-tax-breaks-to-developers-33831248

Among other things, the bill would create tax exemptions for developments that set aside at least 70 units for affordable housing and would speed permits and development orders for affordable-housing projects.

Some Democrats expressed concerns about parts of the bill that would prohibit rent controls and impose certain local government pre-emptions.

Rep. Anna Eskamani, D-Orlando, pointed to Orange County voters last year approving a referendum to enact rent controls because of a lack of affordable housing and rising rents.

Is there a companion bill in the House?

Des signed this into law last week in Naples.

This is the state taking away local control of development regulations. Big, huuge, gift to commercial property owners and their lenders. Even those of us in the industry are still trying to fully understand how this is going to be implemented

Interesting how local control is bad when the locals choose politicians who aren't Republicans and policies that aren't right wing.

Not that I’ve seen yet. Digging deeper, it appears that the biggest issue, not only with college students but all new registrants, is the timing for verification of documentation. This bill has the potential to swamp local supervisors of elections offices.

I’m curious why the arrest for peaceful protesting the 6 week abortion ban of Lauren Book and Nikki Fried isn’t getting more attention. The women were sitting in a circle, the definition of peaceful protesting, and they were handcuffed and hauled away.

In fairness I don’t think it’s because they were peacefully protesting, it’s where they were protesting. They were apparently in an area where they were obstructing traffic.

I thought maybe the protest was intended as civil disobedience and they were just okay with getting cuffed. According to the article, they were told they had to leave at sunset. I don't know if that's a valid restriction or whether that's been the rule for other protests. It's also not clear to me from a constitutional perspective when a City has the authority to require a permit. I see protests in various places where sometimes they have a permit and sometimes they don't. The argument apparently being made by Republicans is that the Mayor is a Democrat and that there was nothing partisan about police removing them.

I don't have enough information to have a strong opinion. I did speak to a family member the other day who is a very consistent Republican voter who mentioned she thinks a six week ban would be very extreme. I will actually be a little surprised if they go through with it, but I've been wrong lots of times before.

I've been puppy sitting my neighbor (the Mayor's) dog all week while he was in Tallahassee meeting with Senators and other Mayors from around the state. Dave has always been a die hard Republican but for some reason he didn't sound happy with his Right Wing brothers. I think his beef is more the Cities vs the State than a Right/Left disagreement. He didn't go into detail but I got the idea that if the congressmen pass what they were discussing most municipalities would have to raise property taxes to make ends meet.

It was intended as civil disobedience because of Tallahassee revoking the group's permit at the last minute (on a Friday afternoon) so they couldn't appeal it and would have a difficult time going to court.

A question. Why do you need a permit to exercise a constitutional right?

Because governments are generally allowed content-neutral time, place, and manner restrictions.

DeS passed a ban on foreign made drones. Police, fire, rescue, even mosquito control all use those drones and there are no comparable US made drones.

    Typical, ready, fire, aim.

Between this and the free carry rule DeS is rapidly losing support among LEO

Cops Are Mad at Ron DeSantis Because He Forces Crappy Made-in-USA Drones on Them (yahoo.com)

New Florida restrictions on drones manufactured by a “foreign country of concern” set to take effect this week have left local police, firefighters, and even mosquito control teams scrambling to maintain normal operations and ensure basic safety.

A Ron DeSantis-backed ban technically applies to drones manufactured in more than half a dozen countries, but its most clear target is dominant Chinese drone-making giant DJI, whose products are widely used amongst government agencies. Local officials and law enforcement opposed to the ban worry the sudden departure from trusted DJI drones to inferior US-made alternatives—some of which spontaneously combust—could unnecessarily put workers’ safety in jeopardy to score some cheap, tough-on-China political points.

“In one year and a half, we had five failures of the manufacturers on the [approved] list. DJI, none,” Orlando Police Sgt. David Cruz said in an interview with the Miami Herald. “That’s going to put us in danger, our officers in danger, and the public in danger, when these drones continue to fall out of the sky.”

The new drone restrictions stem from a broader DeSantis executive order passed late last year with the state purpose of making it more difficult for “hostile foreign powers” to do business in Florida. That order bans government agencies from procuring products made by companies based in China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, and Venezuela. DeSantis, who is widely believed to be eyeing a 2024 presidential run, said these broad restrictions were necessary to prevent China from “worming its way into our nation’s data storage systems.”

DeS going after nursing and teachers unions, unions primarily populated by women, while leaving police and fire unions untouched

New Florida bill could make it harder to join a union - NBC2 News (nbc-2.com)

LEE COUNTY, Fla.– Joining a union in Florida could soon get a lot more difficult.

Republicans are pushing a bill that would no longer allow some union dues to be taken out of paychecks. The bill could cause some unions to dissolve if they can’t get enough members to join.

Nurses and teachers, like the 3500 union members who belong to the Island Coast union in Lee County, call these bills nothing more than union busting. The bills essentially single them out and make it more difficult, not only to pay union dues — but even to join a union.

Governor DeSantis wants tougher standards applied to teachers and nurses who join unions.

Cops, firefighters, and corrections officers endorsed him. It's political payback. Typical from the Tallahassee Tyrant.
