Kind of surprised you refer to our coach as “Sunbelt Billy”. I’ve heard him called that by Gator Haters and Georgia trolls but never by Gator faithful. It really has a negative connotation.
Maybe I’m too optimistic, but I’m going to try and look at the bright side, and there is a bright side, until he has had a reasonable amount of time to prove himself.

He’s an excellent coach that has done more with less.

    Be tough.

You’ve got a very good coach that would be a major loss if he ever went elsewhere. I love that Stoops shows his emotions. Does a great job working refs. You want a Coach that hates to lose and that is Stoops

True - but he has earned a rep for fielding a dirty team. I would respect him if not for that

Thank you. I think having Coen back is going to have a major affect on the offense. We have a nice QB coming in and actually more than one wide receiver who can make plays… refreshing

I know we are fans so we look at W and Ls but coaches are people too.
And most people, unless they have deep issues, want to be happy.
It looks like Stoops has decided that being at UK makes him happy. (Or at least content.)
While I'm sure he wants to win SECs and make the playoffs, IMO he doesn't want to the issues/ pressure that come with it.

What did Pitino tell Donovan- "Don't mess with happiness." (G version.)
This was after Pitino left UK for greener pastures.

Think how much happier Will Muschamp would probably be if he’d stayed a defensive coordinator— or even gone back to a DC job after flaming out the first time

SOS could have went somewhere besides usce if winning was the most important thing to him.

Some people are wired differently. There’s not enough money in the world to make me become president. Quality of life matters more to some people.

Napier handed our defense to an amateur because of their 'relationship'.
This is the big leagues and we don't have time for 'on-the-job-training'.
He chit the bed against USF at home and embarrassed our national brand.
Conversely, the aforementioned Stoops hires NFL coordinators and it shows.

The Gators ranked No. 129 of 131 FBS teams in third-down conversion percentage allowed,
No. 87 in scoring defense and No. 97 in total defense, the second-worst mark in the SEC ,
last season. From 3rd and Grantham to embarrassed at home by Kentucky (again) and USF.
Not-to-mention losing to Vandy on the road which should be punishable by tar & feathering.
    97th total defense in 2022
    51st total defense in 2021

Can't really deny it. After the transition year after Joker Phillips, Stoops went 64-49 (.566) -- at Kentucky. Florida went 71-43 (.622) in perhaps the most talent-rich state in the nation. To put it in further perspective, Spurrier's first 8 years at USCe produced a 66-49 record (.574). And USCe's previous five years went 33-26 (.559), while Kentucky's five years before 2014 was 22-40 (.355).

Stoops is a damned good coach.

You seem enamored with experience, especially NFL experience. The Arizona Cardinals thought enough of Patrick Toney to hire him as their DB coach this year even though he has no NFL coaching experience.
Sean Spencer is our other defensive coordinator and I do believe he had EXPERIENCE with the NY Giants.
Walking into the situation our coaches walked into was not easy but, fortunately most Gators realize that and save the ugly, hurtful comments for a time when the current staff has had time to get their players on the roster and a healthier attitude instilled. Frankly, I don’t think calling people names is ever a good thing. I say that knowing full well I’ve thrown a few out there myself.
We are the good guys. Act like it.

I'm enamored by results and consistency....not necessarily experience.
The Cardinals aren't asking Patrick Toney to scheme against NFL offenses.
He'll just be the position coach for safties Budda Baker and Jalen Thompson.

He is more enamored with finding fault or criticizing something related to Florida athletics . . . it seems from his history.

When I first heard an interview during his first season, I thought that if I had a boy wanting to play college ball, I’d tell him to seriously consider Stoops and Kentucky.

There are plenty of people who are much smarter than me have convinced my naive self… he is a bad man.

just an aside… I remember when brother Bobby got a pay raise to $125K…after winning 1996 national championship. The following year he goes to Oklahoma.

It was your post that got my attention. There are several Stoops brothers and there is one I’ve always liked. They’re all different in their own way. The one I know and liked is Bob Stoops. Why? It has to do with his Relationship and History with Coach Spurrier that you might have forgotten, or maybe didn’t even know.

Spurrier hired the young Bob Stoops to be his DC and Assistant Head Coach for the Gators for 1996 1997 1998. Right off I got a good feeling about that had a good relationship after the 1996 Gator Championship season. Early 1997 The Polk County Gator Club had a big celebration at the Lakeland Center. Spurrier and Bob Stoops came to speak and sign autographs etc. First funny thing was when I was in the long line for Bob Stoops. Spurrier and Stoops tables were side by side. Just when I was next up to get a signed Autograph from Stoops, he said his pen had just run out of ink. And Spurrier said, “Stoopsie, when you come to these events you need to have several pins.”
Spurrier had about six of them and handed one to Stoops. So I got my autograph from Stoops and one from Spurrier. They both gave good talk about the National Championship Game.

It was a couple of years or so later that Stoops got an invite, from U. of Minnesota I think it was, to come and be their new HC. So Stoops thought he’d take it and told Spurrier. Spurrier said, “Stoopsie, you can do better than that.” So Bob Stoops turned it down. Then later on Stoops got an invite by the OU Sooners to be their new HC. So before he accepted it he asked Spurrier for his opinions. And Spurrier said “Stoopsie, that’s the one you want, jump on it!” So, it wasn’t Bob Stoops thought it was the easy choice.

Stoops and the Spurrier families have always had a good relationship. They got Condos side by side on the beach, at Pointe Veidro’ (not sure I spelled that right.) So that’s why OU got Bob Stoops to be their new HC. That’s about it. Influence by Spurrier!
