what does that have to do with the last NYC DA? Also, the federal one was done by the FBI I believe, where Trump has zero friends.
Bail is usually set on flight risk and further risk of violence is it not? Besides a lot of these people are just getting charges dropped by the DA. Has nothing to do with bail.
Mr Vance replied that the Department of Justice, which typically holds seniority when it comes to investigating crimes, had asked his office to stand down its investigation into numerous aspects of the former president’s activities, presumably including the hush payments to Ms Daniels. Mr Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen would end up going to prison as a result of those payments, which prosecutors argued were illegal campaign contributions for reasons of both their size and secrecy. Ex-Manhattan DA finally reveals why Trump wasn’t charged earlier in hush money case FBI doesn't prosecute, DOJ does. And the FBI does have it's share of MAGA fans
No. Bail is only for flight risk. Not a remedy for future violence likelihood. Holding without bail is the remedy for future violence risk. No idea what you are talking about on dropped charges. DAs drop nuisance charges and crimes without proof. They don’t drop charges because they love crime or whatever conclusion you are trying to get to.
Sure. When accounting for sex, you don't get extra credit. Mixing your front and back-end is Risky Business. So, if you pick up a hooker you better not book her.
In Florida, both flight risk and danger to the community. are considerations for admission to bail, the amount of bail and bail conditions by statute, FS 903.406. The judge can require electronic monitoring, curfews, drug testing and other conditions of pretrial release. Statutes & Constitution :View Statutes : Online Sunshine
I would say that this depends on our starting assumptions. If we start from the premise that all accusations are fallacious, then indeed a grand jury indictment would represent evidence of improper legal action. However, if we instead make no a priori judgements regarding the validity of accusations, we might instead view the lack of any indictments in response to repeated accusations as evidence of their baselessness.
Yeah. I wish the GA case had come first, have said that for a while. But it will come well before this gets ramped up. Hopefully it is faster and passes this case procedurally timing wise. But I don’t think Bragg was calling down to Georgia asking when they would indict, way too many problems with that. And he had his own timing issues with the expirations of some of the charges as well. I am guessing he needed to ge them in in case these end up as misdemeanors, though no one can actually seem to say what that SOL is. Just afraid this messy case will tarnish the other ones that seem to have more merit.
I've heard it said the Steve Jobs was a better leader than Trump. But that's comparing apples to oranges
It’s a complex, complicated world and I think there is perhaps a psychological need for a strongman leader to tell us we are being taken care of. It is comforting to think so. That might be where the phenomena of elevating trump to that of a higher being comes from.
To illustrate the point - Clinton (and I never voted for him) had not even met Lewinsky when the “Whitewater investigation” began.
I also think like a defense lawyer. I have no issue with “catch and kill” settlement of claims. This issue here is the stupidity of hiding what they were doing; creates accounting and tax issues. And far as first offenses go, if I were a judge with discretion there would be no jail time on this. He has a strong advice of counsel defense on intent issues too. Because his lawyer helped concoct this.
