Not really a big difference, just folks who want to hold certain players to different standards for doing the same thing. Luckily most people aren’t falling for it and can see EXACTLY what’s going on.
Clark said that she has no problem with Reese nor her gesture and says she wants the collegiate women to play with emotion and passion and not worry about displaying their emotions. So put it to rest, y'all.
Trash talk and gestures during the game are accepted in sports. I don't care for it, but it is. And, you have to be careful about directing in-game gestures directly at a specific player or you may get a technical. Taunting an opponent after the game is over is a completely different thing. It's classless and, from what I've seen, very rarely done. I can't actually recall seeing someone taunting another player after a game. I thinks that's why Reese's taunt was so jarring. Gator opponents who do the Gator chomp toward their fans (or even our fans) after winning a game are annoying (and I think somewhat classless), but it's a far cry from directing a taunt at an opposing player. If an opponent Gator chomped one of our players to his face after a game, he might just get a punch in the nose (and deserve it). I can't tell if there's postgame taunting in football. I don't see overt taunts, but maybe taunting is the source of some of the postgame fights that break out at times.
My main hope is that Reese is not a trendsetter. That said, if someone has video of players taunting specific opposing players on the court after a game is over, I'll certainly eat crow.
