Bill Barr's credibility ranks right up there with the Republican budget and Health Care plan .... 100% absent.

He may request a waiver for the arraignment which is a declaration he is aware of the charges and is pleading not guilty. He may also request an arraignment via video conference.

The judge may require him to be present.

What are you talking about? I took issue your prior comment because the comment of mine that you referenced had nothing to do with you. I was talking to another poster when you felt the need to jump in and call me dumb.

My comment that you’ve taken issue with here was one I made in direct response to another poster who was directly quoting a prior comment of mine. They’re not similar situations at all.

And I’m sorry—any comment that equates an impartial grand jury indicting someone in NY in 2023 after weeks and months of testimony (and where the defendant had the right to be heard and declined) with German “courts” in the 1940’s where they were exterminating 6 million Jews just for ethnicity without a trial is in fact, a ridiculous and ignorant comment.

Let’s ask the descendants of any of my maternal grandmother’s numerous siblings and cousins gassed at Treblinka if they see an equivalency between the 2. I suspect they will not.

For the record, I’ve never gone to a mod about any post or poster on here so I have no idea what you’re talking about there.

Then I’ll rephrase, you called it a kangaroo court. What makes it such?

And yes, he either appears or waives appearance, or else the judge can issue a bench warrant for his arrest to bring him to court for his arraignment.

Yep , Barr is full of it. He is offering an opinion about sealed indictment, meaning he hasn't even read it. Barr is just pandering to the maga base.

One follow-up comment. It apparently was the photo of Ivana's grave that triggered the responses to the post in which I stated that Trump would be the dominant figure in the Republican Party until he joined Ivana at the golf course in New Jersey. That phrase wasn't original on my part; another poster used almost the exact same words including the obvious implication that Republicans would kowtow to Trump until he passed away months earlier and it didn't trigger the response that my post did. Perhaps it's not surprising that a visual image is much more triggering than text.

There were several prominent Republican politicians who stood up to Trump, but the rank and file spoke, and they are no longer prominent Republican politicians.

Sets up the question at the beginning, then spends several pages answering it.

Will Trump indictment make white evangelicals ditch ‘imperfect vessel’?

Evangelical leaders justified their support for Trump by comparing him to King Cyrus, who in the biblical telling liberated the Jews from Babylonian captivity, despite himself being a Persian ruler who did not believe in the god of Israel.
Trump, like Cyrus, was seen as an “imperfect vessel”, according to evangelicals. That meant God was using him for the greater good – in this case to hand political and cultural power back to white conservative Christians, who had watched in horror as the United States became more diverse and less religious.

But King Cyrus had never been formally indicted in relation to hush money payments to an adult film star. As of Thursday, Trump has, becoming the first former US president to be criminally indicted.

With Trump, who was also the first president to be impeached twice, now expected to be formally charged in the sordid saga, will these white evangelicals finally turn away from their man?

Not a cult(?)…..just the Young Republicans of New York.

“President Trump embodies the American people – our psyche from id to super-ego – as does no other figure; his soul is totally bonded with our core values and emotions, and he is our total and indisputable champion," the club wrote. "This tremendous connection threatens the established order”

"The fix has always been 'in' against our President, but his motivation and love for the American people drove him to pursue the national excellence that his unique vision perceived lay within our reach," the club wrote. "In doing so, he opened so many eyes to reality."

Young Republicans are not taking the Trump indictment well

Like DD, that meme doesn’t make sense.

Why would a President pay off women you had sex with?

He has to be booked, the judge will not allow his presence to be waived. He will be formally booked and then immediately taken to arraignment. There he can either er waive a formal reading of the charges or require that they be read to him. He'll enter his "not guilty" plea and a status date will be set.

Since the implication from the meme is rather obvious please tell who received payments from Bill Clinton. Enquiring minds want to know (the reference if it's not obvious was to the advertising slogan of the National Enquirer which paid Gennifer Flowers to spill the beans on Clinton regarding their affair and while their affair was real her story was as much fiction as it was fact).

Whatever the outcome, the trial will be a hoot. Star witnesses for the state are a porn star who broke an NDA and a convicted felon sleazy attorney (use the word loosely). Prosecutor is an obese slob. On the defense side you have a loose cannon defendant, with a ton of quirks and a penchant for saying stupid things. We don’t know much about his defense team, but if Trump’s history of hiring lawyers is any indicator, it should be quite a team.

SNL should have a field day with this. The trial itself will provide plenty to parody and then they shift over to the DOJ and Whitehouse to caricature Garland and Biden. This is, or should be comedic gold!
