Interesting question, to which the answer is "no", but that's not the graveman of the charge. The question is whether it is illegal to pay someone off, including while in office, and claim it as something else, to which the answer is "yes", and a felony at that.

Have not read the charges, but falsifying records, for ex. claiming the 150K was for actual legal expenses can be illegal. If the money was from campaign funds = illegal, if he claimed business deduction for hush money is not legal, if the money was from corporate acct. and he did not claim as income, he could have IRS issues. People get away with all kinds of things, all the time..... until they don't.

I thought the “pay off” by Cohen happened prior to the 2016 election? If so Trump wasn’t in office at that time. Please don’t confuse this with me defending Trump here but if Trump did not know the pay off funds were then tallied as business or legal expenses what would he be guilty of? If my accountant is claiming illegal write offs and I don’t know it am I guilty of a crime? I’m not the expert that’s why I pay an accountant. I mean nobody thinks he is actually doing his accounting or taxes do they?

The hoops CEO’s have go through to attest to the validity of their financial stmts are rigorous even for his two bit company. I have said in the past that I liked Trump and voted for him because of CRT and things like that. It is true that motivated me to vote for him more. It is another good thing that matters a lot to me that he took the right side on. That added to my motivation to vote for him, but abortion has always been the final fundamental issue that clenched it for me. A party that wants to kill 1,000,000 babies per year has always been the #1 most important issue for me. Democrats tweaking Marxism, altering some of its internal components, and then representing their new creation with the capital letters NOT MARXISM on the top of the box was another motivating factor that made me all in on preventing as many Democrats as possible from coming to power.
