I think that the hush money charges against Trump set a terrible precedent. This means that any future presidential candidate who pays off a hooker to keep her mouth shut just before an election and commits fraud and election law violations in the process could be subject to prosecution.
DeSantis should just indict Trump here... and have the real trial here in Florida. There cannot be double jeopardy... once he's found NOT GUILTY. The state of Florida should try him first... Beat the city of NY to the punch. All kidding aside, the statute of limitations has run out, a long time ago, on this misdemeanor. Too bad for Bragg.
Bragg did guarantee that Trump would be the nominee. As far as being the next president is concerned I guess Trump can celebrate his victory by inviting Senators Walker of Georgia, Oz of Pennsylvania, and Laxalt of Nevada as well as Governors Lake of Arizona and Dixon of Michigan to join him at the White House for a victory party.
Add to the list of things you know nothing about....double jeopardy. It prevents the same sovereign from trying a person twice for the same crime. Also add....indictments. They come from grand juries, not governors.
Well...the deeper more sinister thing here is the posters who are most likely to step up and assume guilt without even a shred of evidence on the scale are the ones most likely to dig their heels in and be advocates of racialized ideologies. The poster who made the initial post proclaiming justice in this situation is one of the most zealous advocates of racial ideology I've ever seen on this board. I believe the two are directly related, and if a racial ideology can drive someone to assume guilt without even a shred of evidence...that is not a safe ideology for any society to imbibe or inculcate. Societies that KNOW someone is guilty without any evidence are capable of great evil. Like we could have continuous repeats of the Salem Witch Trials if juries started operating on that ideology. Except it wouldn't be the Puritan era Christians...it would be the 21st century crusaders against Trump, whiteness, hate, homophobia, white supremacy, etc.

I am progressive on issues of race and sexual orientation. I have said Trump is innocent until proven guilty and think most people agree with that. Respectfully, this is some crazy crazy jujitsu to try to make this about attacks on straight White people.
If it wasn't apparent before it's really obvious now as to who is the dominant figure in the Republican Party. When the only other candidate with even a remote chance at winning the nomination feels compelled to grovel before the Dear Leader there is little doubt as to who will be the party's presidential nominee.
But if he makes big noise about not extraditing trump then he gets to play both sides of the trump divide. Posture like FL doesn't and won't eventually extradite trump while raising awareness of his criminality and drag it out through 2024. Politically smart.

Let's wait for the charges to be unsealed. If he broke the law and they can prove it, then lock him up. Lots of people are turds, but being a turd is not against the law. If Trump is locked up it needs to be for the right reasons. An ideological mob thinking he's a turd is not enough.
