Yep, in spite of the hysterical scare tactics, the second amendment is not going anywhere and no, they are not going door to door to take away your precious firearms.
But if you trust the government to implement meaningful gun control, why don’t you trust them to secure our schools? Nice way of revealing your agenda.
Some good pts re: The liquor analogy and I'm really sorry about your cuz. Some counterpoints: I believe 2020 was relatively low year for gun deaths, which have increased since. Gun violence is about more than mass shootings, which get the headlines. Automobiles are far more useful than guns, esp. for the general population. I bet there have been threads about drunk drivers killing children. Gun violence is no longer a random phenomenon. It shows a pattern specific to the U.S.
So you’re saying people suffering from anxiety or depression owing weapons should be legal despite the fact that they are more likely to commit a mass killing of others and/or themselves?
The fact that you retorted by accusing me of something I didn't even say lets me know you were triggered by my post. Way to holler, you hit dog
It's all they have because they refuse to have that conversation about gun control that they've been ducking and dodging forever
Someone with anxiety isn’t homicidal by nature. It’s people who have more severe issues, combined with drug use and lack of treatment. Psychiatric Illness And Criminality - StatPearls - NCBI Bookshelf And more to the point, even if you were right, by what degree is it Ok to shut them down? If they are .001 percent more likely, do we take their guns away? And to extend that, white males are more likely than black females to commit mass murder, should all white men be banned from owning guns? How about poor people, they are more likely to commit murder. So are African Americans, take theirs away too? it should be reserved for very specific cases where people have shown actual warning signs of being a risk.
So, what’s the problem? Shouldn’t you be pouring your energy into securing the schools versus trying to infringe on the right to bear arms? I happen to trust the government can do both.
It makes little sense, and is also completely circular. “We need unfettered access to guns to protect us from a tyrannical govt, and also also we need more police state security to protect everyone from guns”. Dafuq.
I didn't comment on whether I trusted the government or not, so enough with the strawman. You were clearly triggered by that post since you feel it applies to you LOL
Because it's not a reasonable proposal. Shooters can easily get through a locked door by shooting the lock or shooting out a window. Only a having a single entry point is a fire disaster waiting to happen. Armed security guards haven't prevented past shootings. I've seen people mention that we can secure airports but there are 50k TSA agents for 440 airports - that ratio is not remotely practical for schools. Schools come in all variety of layouts so there's no one size fits all solution to securing schools. Are we talking about replacing all doors with steel reinforced doors? All windows with bullet proof windows? Fencing with barbed wire? Multiple guards with assault rifles patrolling the grounds? Personally, that sounds like complete madness to me as opposed to working on the issue at the source, which is the guns.
So securing schools, much the way we do airports now constitutes a police state? Are you arguing airport security makes us a police state? Are you saying we need to get rid of the TSA, because it’s too police stateish?
I think he's explaining why its legal, the only requirements for owning a gun are not being a criminal or adjudicated mentally incompetent. Being under the care of a therapist or doctor doesnt mean you are any of those things. As I said, this is mainly a problem for the people who present arguments about how the "law abiding" should be free of regulation or restrictions. If they want to pick and choose who can own guns, they violate that principle, if they maintain it, a bunch of people who definitely shouldn't own guns in any sane society will get them (but that can certainly be abused too to take them away from people).
Honestly, I hear much of what you’re saying, but it’s actually a more reasonable proposal than your gun control measures, because at least with secured schools, we’d have a guarantee. Your gun control proposals guarantee us nothing.
In many states like Tennessee there are zero red flag laws so we would never know who should or shouldn’t have a firearm. There’s no telling how many lives have been saved in Florida thanks to the Republican legislature, who in a moment of clarity, recognized the need by passing red flag laws after Parkland. As a result thousands of people in Florida have had their guns confiscated. Florida's red flag law, championed by Republicans, is taking guns from thousands of people | CNN Politics I should note that DeSantis said he would have vetoed the act.
