Exactly, nothing to stop a shooter from just hanging out in the parking lot picking off kids as they come and go to school. Surprised it hasnt already happened. More guns and fences in the school might make some parents feel safer but at the end of the day it is not much of a deterrent and would even be scarier for the kids.
I'm not trying to be obtuse, but how? Approach someone on the street corner? Dark web? I'd think someone looking to illegally buy an assault rifle would leave an online paper trail that authorities could follow and potentially stop before a shooting happens. You could also impose severe penalties on anyone who illegally sells an assault rifle that's later used to commit a murder. Authorities wouldn't always track down the source but I bet they'd be successful quite often, especially in these high profile shootings where significant resources are allocated.
You mean the black market isnt like a farmers market where everyone shows up on Sunday with all the drugs, guns and stolen loot at convenient booths?
This I agree with. My problem is those that 1. Have little to no knowledge of firearms 2. Make ignorant statements about said firearms 3. Act like the AR15 is THE issue at hand. Until more people are willing to be upfront and honest and say that they want to do away with the 2A, ban all guns, confiscate all guns and move forward with a zero tolerance policy on guns instead of calling for an me specific gun to be banned… until then the conversation is dishonest. We ban assault weapons and kids a killed in double digit numbers by 9mm glocks. We ban semi auto pistols and kids are killed with shotguns. We ban shotguns… and that’s where this is going. The gun laws we have in the books now are not used far too often. I’m all for red flag laws. They have been proven to save lives in Fl and focus on the shooter. I’m all for mandatory training. I am not for a gun registry due to what history tells us it will be used for… over and over… No one has prescribed an answer for banning or taking guns that would work OUTSIDE OF FULL CONFISCATION. Instead of the inflammatory, insulting, low brow insults this board … both sides … is so good at why not focus on something that may work. Red law flags Mandatory training prior to purchase Increased age limit These may or may not have helped with this shooting.. we will see as more info comes out.
I may be ignorant about gun terminology when it comes to AR-15s vs other types of rifles but I do know that it's the preferred weapon of people committing mass shootings. You can say "oh they'll just use a different type of gun instead" but the reality is that they don't. Over and over it's an assault rifle for purposes of inflicting maximum casualties. The small bit of evidence we have is that mass shootings did decrease when assault weapons were banned. Could there have been other factors? Absolutely, but what we have to go on is that these people choose assault rifles and measures designed to curb them have worked.
I don't think I heard of people wanting to ban one specific gun. The AR15 is brought up because it is so frequently used in the major news grabbing mass shootings. I think that people focus on assault weapons bans because they know that trying to take away all guns would not even be entertained. I have no problem saying it, though. There needs to be a total ban on firearms and zero tolerance policy with severe penalties. Pain now or pain later... those are really the only choices. That said, I doubt it happens because no politician wants to be the one who starts violence or potential rebellions on their watch. I just wish 2A supporters were less selfish about their own gun fetishes.
In what way? That I have followed the data and “science” and been on the correct side through most of this? There is a reason Moderna is going to be charging so much more for these shots. No one is taking them now. People/Doctors know they are unnecessary. But we will still have a few the push coercion via idiotic guidance by the cdc and Monderna/Pfizer will still make money on the evil guidelines still being pushed to this day. I love how the Moderna CEO put it when Bernie Sanders asked him to not quadruple the price lol. They no longer have the economies of scale. The sick thing is…these shots are not needed and the falling demand should result in lower prices. But not when fascists are in control lol…
You need to address this with @GatorJMDZ Funny how you give me an “off topic” for responding to others who brought Covid up in this thread. Try to actually address the source next time. I have been on topic and responded accordingly to those who have responded to me. You look foolish when you do this.
I didn’t give you an off topic, and. I didn’t quote your message in one, I was speaking to both of you. So That makes this post kinda ironic .
My bad on the "off topic". Your are correct. I did click on it but clearly mixed up the response and who had hit "off topic". Apologies. That said. My posts were about the OP. @GatorJMDZ took it to Covid. I responded accordingly to those who have responded to me.
Define "proper background checks". And what would disqualify someone with one of these "proper background checks?" This must be done without violating any constitutional rights.
Coming from you there's a huge probability it's made up. Regardless, of the four, which were transgender and which claimed to be non-binary? Do you understand the difference? It's hateful propaganda to (wrongfully) highlight a trait of just four shooters. How many of the recent shooters were white? Male? Conservative? White suprermesists? Crickets from ole Rick. I loathe the sophisms of the deplorables, don't you?
3D print the lower receiver or mill one (personal CNC mills that are capable of this are rapidly becoming affordable. Currently about what a 3d printer cost about 10 years ago). Purchase all other parts. There is nothing off-putting to you about government monitoring communications like that?
i would pattern them after the extensive background checks they do in Europe. Will not be fast and should be funded by application fees. how about we go back to the 2nd amendment and stop ignoring the whole well regulated militia thing. if you cannot pass a thorough background check establishing your mental and emotional stability, you cannot be part of the well regulated militia. If you do nto want to get the proper training, you cannot be part of the well regulated militia. Discarding those opening words of the 2nd A is bad law
Just another senseless tragedy. Never been a gun guy. Never will be a gun guy, I just dont understand it. Not bashing the gin guys at all. I just dont personally get it. That said, they are not the problem. The issues in this country are much deeper than the weapons we use to act out on said issues.
I'm curious in this area as well since protection seems to be the most noted reason for gun ownership. In re: to home protection or personal protection outside the home, I'd be interested in the total number of legal gun owners, and of those, how many have had an incident occur in the last calendar year that involved the gun owner's firearm to drill down on realistic outcomes of owning a gun for personal/family protection. I know, I know everyone thinks they'd react like Dirty Harry and not Barney Fife. An incident (in home or outside the home) would be defined as: 1) being attacked and using the gun 2) being attacked and not having access to the gun, but the use of lethal force would have been necessary(would not have been charged with murder) 3) gun was stolen (from car or home) 4) gun was used in unwanted manner by anyone 5) <insert undefined incident>. Now classify all incidents as positive or negative outcomes. Note: feelings don't count. Now list the number of total legal gunowners. Of those, list how many had an incident occur in the previous year. That gives you the % of those having any incident involving their gun. Of those who had an incident, what was the % of positive outcomes and % of negative outcomes. I wasn't able to find stats like this, but it sure would be interesting to see.
