Mental Health Conditions and Substance Use: Comparing U.S. Needs and Treatment Capacity with Those in Other High-Income Countries Why is it wrong to look at all data including mental health issues? How does that make someone a right winger? Some of the countries with the lowest rates of claimed mental health issues also have many more mental health workers per capita and apparently value mental health as a standard medical care. Maybe that includes prescription meds as an adjunct and maybe it doesn't but it's something to consider. At a minimum our way of handling mental health issues through medicating alone seems to be way over used. In any event there are plenty of people who have these concerns AND want to see a more serious approach to gun control.
A rational P.O.V might be to do background checks to make sure the mentally ill can’t get guns. But GOP politicians have made it so even the mentally ill can easily get guns. So the point of his suggestion is… what? To potentially go after the drug companies for a mass shooting? The doctors who prescribed the medication? Give me a friggen break. Anything but the gun. He didn’t even question how or why this person had two semi-autos, a handgun, and a pile of ammo.
Well to be fair in previous dozens of headlines Fox news reported: "White Christian Man shoots up..." [checks notes]. Nevermind, they didnt.
Im with the conservatives here. Gun laws likely wont do anything. Too many guns already out there and people are devious enough to get around whatever is passed with modification kits etc if they really want to get a more deadly gun. We shit the bed decades ago. Now we have to sleep in it. I suggest a very socialist solution. I suggest federal/state hired screeners, armed guards, and fortress-like facilities at all locations kids are gathered. Adults will have to fend for themselves. We've made air travel very safe after 9/11. Everyplace can be that safe with some nuisance, at least where the kids are.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — At 9:57 a.m., a former middle school basketball teammate of Audrey Hale looked at her phone to find a message from The Covenant School shooter on Instagram. Averianna Patton said she saw the message that Hale planned to die by suicide and that Patton would see it on the news. In the messages Patton provided to NewsChannel 5, Hale told Patton she would see her again in another life. Hale told Patton about no longer wanting to live and the need to die. "One day this will make more sense," Hale wrote. "I've left behind more than enough evidence behind. But something bad is about to happen." https://www.newschannel5.com/news/s...ct-a-message-from-the-covenant-school-shooter
Ugh...interesting find. I am not blaming the police or friend for this but we are really not set up to quick respond and handle this. Not sure if its even possible. From your link: Patton said she called the Nashville Davidson County Sheriff's Office at 10:13 a.m. to make them aware of the situation and was instructed to call Nashville's non-emergency number. "I called Nashville's non-emergency line at 10:14 a.m. and was on hold for nearly seven minutes before speaking with someone who said that they would send an officer to my home. An officer did not come to my home until 3:29 p.m.," Patton said. "After phone calls from friends and Audrey's name was released as the shooter at Covenant Nashville school, I learned that Audrey was the shooter and that she had reached out to me prior to the shooting," Patton said. "My heart is with all of the families affected and I'm devastated by what has happened."
A rifle is not a round, so your last sentence makes no sense. If you put a .556 or 223 round in a slingshot it’s not scary. Put it in an AR15, and you have my assigned weapon in military combat. Having seen what it can do, yes it is scary to know that basically anyone can get them. I lived in Germany and somehow their society is still great without all the guns.
[ I get what you're saying but I don't see how a ban on assault rifles would have stopped this nut, she would have just used a different weapon
I don't have the answer. Maybe it's a ban on ARs maybe not. All I know is there is no actual discussion about measures that fall somewhere in between the extremes and therefore nothing happens at all to even try to mitigate this recurring tragedy.
Should be obvious that few people in here give two shits why these whack jobs want to kill little children...just guns bad.
Or why they use the same method an overwhelming majority of the time...... Two way street but yeah....go team.

Here is a question... as a country... we "fixed" drunk driving from being the problem it was. Increased penalty laws, random checks, education, held bars responsible for over serving... it wasnt ONE thing. It was a nation with a mindset that they'd had enough. Why cant we do that now?
It’s because the “why” will always exist. You can’t eradicate the why. But, guns give anyone the power to take many lives in a short period of time with little training or skill. You can put gun control in place and address the why. There’s no reason why we can’t do both.
Ok, so you are ruling out the possibility that any of these shooters are over-medicated in some capacity (mind you, that was merely one example of what could *possibly* have been a contributing factor that could be assessed). Is that an opinion, or is that based on research? If it's based on research, I think that's potentially useful, don't you? If not, why not? If you're being honest, you don't genuinely know what I understand and don't understand. If you don't think people are ever over-medicated, then consider yourself fortunate that you haven't gotten to experience that side of "health care." Again, either these intentions are completely random or these intentions have a causality to them. If they have an observable causality, then they are worth studying. If they don't have an observable causality, then we will only know (or get closer to knowing) by learning. You've isolated this down to mental health and prescriptions, but there are more components to one's health and student records and family history. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
