So if they're "one and the same," and DeSantis won by 1.5 million votes, and such a margin cannot be attributed to gerrymandering, that would mean that the Republican legislature would have won by a major margin in Florida with or without gerrymandering, the question is to what degree.

Would you agree with that logic?

Yep. Just because something happened in the past does not mean it will happen in the future. That’s like saying in 2008 I can’t wait to win more National titles in football. Thanks for agreeing with me.

It's really funny that you think anyone is arguing with 'Just because something happened in the past does not mean it will happen in the future.'. If only that had anything to do with your original statement, "That’s like saying last years Gators team has anything to do with this years team. Means zero." You've moved the goalposts and constructed a straw man. Well done.

But I'll let you go now. We've cluttered the thread up with this idiocy enough.

Trump was actually a highly effective president.

When discussing politics and using past events as an indicator of the future this quote from Mark Twain comes to mind.

Giving credit where credit is due he did get a budget busting tax cut although Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell deserve as much if not more credit than Trump for that "accomplishment" and his one lasting success, packing the Supreme Court is much more attributable to the manipulation of Mitch McConnell than Donald Trump. Were it not for Mitch, Trump would have ended up with one rather than three Supreme Court nominees.

Tons of baggage and things that history will not look kindly on, but yes. When reined back, he was good.

This is actually mostly correct unfortunately. Trade deals are mostly dead, Trump's border policies in place (and you have Biden/Trudeau making deals to make asylum claims more difficult, and the current administration considering bringing back child separation), everyone wants to prove how tough they are on China. You also have the most reactionary supreme court in anyone's lifetime, thanks to 3 SCOTUS appointments.

Apparently, Fox and the Murdochs have decided that Ron DeSantis rather than Trump is their candidate of choice (see also the NY Post editorial). It's not really going to make any difference now. Like Dr. Frankenstein's monster Rupert and the boys can no longer control their own creation. If MAGA nation decides that Fox isn't sufficiently loyal to Trump they will just abandon that media platform for Newsmax whose motto should be "All Trump, all the time". To the best of my knowledge Newsmax was the only media outlet to carry Trump's Waco MAGA rally in its entirety not mention the equivalent of extensive pregame and postgame shows prior to and following the rally itself.

I watched and can confirm. It was dark and troubling.

With respect to Fox News, Rick Wilson posted last night that Fox News is beginning to make a turn back toward Trump. Hard for me to know that yet. I think they will throw Trump under the bus if necessary to protect the party, but it's just too early in the primary season for them to break from Trump at this point. Maybe it will be more obvious if and when DeSantis declares, but I think they'll be very cautious even then.

Ima sorta burning out on Ron D as a viable candidate for POTUS. I think he’s gone too far on the social issue. Perhaps I don’t understand his political strategy if he has one.

With Trump a nonstarter for me, I don’t know who the republicans can/will nominate that will represent a candidate that can win. Someone from m South Carolina - Scott or Haley???

at what? Implementing his socialist econ agenda. let's see. of course this in addition to INCREASING spending. Obama was supposed to be big gov...Trump immediately made gov BIGGER. number of depts & agencies cut = 0!!!!

    1. paid $820,000 of tax payer money to create shitty welfare jobs.
Trump’s Washing Machine Tariffs Cost Consumers $800,000 Per Job Created | Mark J. Perry

    2. put costly tariffs on consumer goods. I assume you don't need a link, but here's 1 from the WSJ.
Opinion | Trade Truths Will Outlast Trump

Tariffs are paid by consumers, destroy jobs and hurt the economy. Mr. Trump insisted that China would pay for the 15% to 25% duties that he imposed on $300 billion of its exports. In fact, the tariffs were passed on to American consumers, who paid more either directly for imported consumer goods or indirectly for imported intermediate inputs that increase production costs and ended up raising consumer prices.

Take steel. Higher prices might have saved some jobs in the steel industry, but not many: The industry is capital-intensive and doesn’t employ the tens of thousands of workers of yesteryear. In the 1980s, it took 10 hours of work to produce a ton of steel; now it takes one hour.

In fact, steel protection is a job-destroying policy. Economists at the Federal Reserve found that the steel and aluminum tariffs reduced overall employment in manufacturing by 75,000 workers.

    3. Here's the doozy. 'member NAFTA? The disaster of a trade deal??? Well, he unquestionably made it more socialist. Also, he similarly made our trade deal with S. Korea more socialist.

Here’s a brief overview of what’s in it:

    • Country of origin rules: Automobiles must have 75 percent of their components manufactured in Mexico, the US, or Canada to qualify for zero tariffs (up from 62.5 percent under NAFTA).
    • Labor provisions: 40 to 45 percent of automobile parts must be made by workers who earn at least $16 an hour by 2023. Mexico agreed to pass new labor laws to give greater protections to workers, including migrants and women. Most notably, these laws are supposed to make it easier for Mexican workers to unionize

bottom line. RUBES love socialism & welfare if you call it American First policy.

His strategy is to be the loudest on social issues because it’s the easiest way to get attention and he doesn’t truly have to solve anything important.
I mentioned it in another thread and was told I was wrong; but you are evidence that even for some republicans it’s not a winning strategy. People want to see him substantive things now, they know his culture stance.

  18. This post should be bronzed and hung on the wall. I 100% agree.

As much as I love President Trump for what he has done for my country, I know that he has LOST much of America's middle and that there will be be a reactionary segment of people that will vote "against" him on personality and style, especially amongst women voters. The left knows this too and is frothing at the mouth to have him be the GOP nominee in 24.

DeSantis is virtually a carbon copy of Trump on ALL the issues that count and is even MORE outspoken than Trump on many of them. He is younger, has less (really, NO) personal baggage, has a telegenic, personable family and has shown competence and an ability to pull in voters from the other side. The left does not want him as an opponent and will try in vain to play up the race card and social issues to make him look "too extreme" to be elected. I don't care about Yale or the bushes or Karl Rove or mcconnell. I will put my horse blinders on and ignore the noise coming from those who fear the country-club bunch (who are irrelevant now) because I know DeSantis is our BEST and MOST conservative candidate for this next cycle. The Left must be beaten in this next election and I want to WIN. DeSantis is our best choice to do that. Imagine the FARCE it would be to have a polished DeSantis embarrassing old joe in a debate. A united GOP behind DeSantis will overcome any one candidate the other side has.

This will become more and more obvious as we move forward. Ron DeSantis is just waiting for Republicans to recognize this and when they do, it will be HIS moment.
