These are the numbers that are going to bite DeSantis on the butt (WSJ poll):

"Asked, "Which of these concerns you more about schools today?," a whopping 61% chose "some schools may ban books and censor topics that are educationally important." Just 36% opted for "some schools may teach books and topics that some students or their parents feel are inappropriate or offensive."

He's not going to expand his base by appealing to the fringe eighties that want to see our educational system damaged to promote their agenda.

It's also not hard to determine which of those two groups of respondents is the more educated of the two.

New WSJ poll shows bad news for Ron DeSantis' 'anti-woke' agenda

DeSantis won’t move up in the national consciousness until he shows he’s more than anti woke carnival barker.
He finally got asked a question on Ukraine and had to retract his answer the next day. Comes across as a lightweight on real issues.

I’m very curious how the DeSantis censorship will play out in the moderate states that value education like Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Michigan. I don’t think his antics will play well there, if the Dems run an effective campaign (a big IF given how putrid the campaign was run in Florida for the governorship).

Because he is a lightweight on real issues. It helps understand why he is so outspoken on fringe issues.

DeSantis not unlike Trump will mobilize younger and minority voters to turnout and vote against him especially in the swing states. Although he isn't as personally odious as Trump, younger voters aren't exactly big fans of a theocratic authoritarian who is building his political career on the culture wars. As another poster pointed out on this board DeSantis's popularity in Florida is probably much more attributable to his ending the Covid lockdowns in a state largely dependent on tourism then his positions on cultural issues. The lockdowns killed the state's economy and once they were ended it bounced back in a big way. In Nevada another state largely dependent on tourism the only Democratic candidate for statewide office who lost was the incumbent governor largely because he supported Covid lockdowns which seriously harmed that state's tourism based economy.
It happened in 2022 and whether the Republican nominee will be DeSantis or the more likely Trump it will happen again in the 2024 presidential election.

Did you mean 'Trump won't be in his wazzu in 2028?'

Between his original (2023 version, not 2014 version) position on Ukraine and his revised version he could end up alienating both the Putin supporters of MAGA nation as well as those establishment Republicans who still identify with Reagan.

My IQ is only a 66 which was enough for me to graduate from law school at UF with honors. My wife’s IQ is 140, so together we are profoundly gifted. We are also really good free throw shooters.

This is hysterical! I'm going to do it just like you. UF men's basketball has won 9 games in SEC play 3 years in a row. This obviously proves that last year's record is an indicator of this year's record right? I mean I'm doing it the same way you are, cherry-picking one team that 'proves' my point, so I must be right, right?

Yea, you just proved my point for me. Thank you. Something that happened in years past doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen again. But I’ll let you get back to poking your DeSantis voodoo doll.

And DeSantis margin was largely the result of reopening the tourist-based economy following economically devastating Covid lockdowns, a situation almost unique to Florida. He would have won in any event but the margin would have been much smaller.

I consider this to be a Republican issue and have no idea who would win the primary between Trump and DeSantis. But just curious, what long-shot candidate outside of those two could possibly win? Seems like Trump would have to go to jail and DeSantis would have to completely implode for a third candidate to rise out of ashes.

I've been told that DeSantis and the Florida legislature are "one and the same."

It's been fun watching you go from saying:

"That’s like saying last years Gators team has anything to do with this years team. Means zero."

    To saying:

"Something that happened in years past doesn’t necessarily mean it will happen again."

    Nice job!

Actually a rather accurate description. When it comes to policy positions and legislation when Governor Ron says "Jump!" the response of the legislature is "how high?" If it were not for gerrymandering there is a good chance that the legislature would be less compliant even if a Republican majority.
