I think they'd both be terrible for the country and our democracy. But I think DeSantis might be more effective at it than Trump. Either would be disastrous.
One facet of the MAGA movement that I'm tired of is this expectation that Trump can insult any Republican in any way, he can call their wives ugly, he can call them fat, he can insinuate that they're a groomer. But in spite of all of this, if they're not eager to use their institutional power at the state level to defend him legally in another state, then that other Republican is the problem. The worst part is that DeSantis defended him and that's still not good enough. Meanwhile, dude hasn't even entered the race yet and Trump is calling him a groomer.
Interesting that a bunch of outlets are going with a ‘Bush family and Karl rove back desantis’. That’s a death blow to desantis in a primary…..which makes me think it was a plant either by opposition party to make sure desantis loses or plant by trump.
DeSantis would be good for the country. He wouldn't be a "unifier in chief," but find me one candidate (that can realistically win the primary) who is.
If it's good for the country for politicians to have private police forces, erase civil rights histories from textbooks, take public stabs at private companies that defy them and want to rule like Viktor Orban, yeah he'd be great for the country.
Funny, I almost thought you were talking about Democrats for a second. IRS expansion, weaponizing the justice system against political opponents, teaching a skewed version of history almost specifically so children grow to hate America, blocking Chick-Fil-A franchises in liberal cities, and withdrawing from deals with Walgreens for adhering to abortion laws.
If by “good for the country,” you’re referring to the insecure fundamentalist, white Christian males, then I totally agree with you. As for everyone else, not so much.
I would take Desantis over frumppp every time. Not that I like him but I don't think Ron is ready to reinstitute a civil war like that slimey P.O.S. from wherever he is from - Satans groin.............
Yeah, Trump's core base is very loyal. What's going on in New York will make them even madder than they are and is good for fundraising, but they're going to be for him either way and they only get one vote (well, most of them anyway). I'm not sure the potential indictment explains why DeSantis' numbers are apparently dropping, which I think (could be wrong) included some polling before Trump claimed that his arrest was imminent. The article reflects some Republicans are questioning whether DeSantis can withstand Trump's attacks, and I think Trump's attacks on DeSantis are probably a bigger factor than the grand jury proceedings. It's also possible IMO that Republicans are getting a closer look at DeSantis with his book tour, more tv coverage, and his comments about Ukraine. Maybe some really liked DeSantis on paper but aren't liking what they're seeing and hearing. Still notable to me that Trump - a former president - has formally declared yet the two biggest names I saw at his rally were Gaetz and MTG. Lot of party movers and shakers appear to be waiting it out on the fence for now. Assuming DeSantis declares, he has to balance looking weak if he doesn't go after Trump hard versus alienating the MAGA base if he does. Not an easy position to be in.
Is Lindsey Graham hating DeSantis ? If so, I’m loving DeSantis. Graham is the craziest man on the planet.
I’m sure you do, and clearly you’re not in the minority. I happen to think he is very dangerous for our country for many, many, many reasons, not the least of which is his complete inability to wield the power of his office, and more importantly to restrain himself on exercising that power. Since he’s proven incapable of doing so as a governor, I think he’d be catastrophic as the holder of what is arguably the most the powerful person in the world
DeSantis has also been pushing the line farther to the right lately, a little too far even for my taste. I know he said he doesn't look at polls, but a piece of me thinks he's testing the waters to see exactly how far he can go before people start thinking he's taking things too far. I don't think that's the issue, but who knows. Politics is a complex game. More than likely, it has something to do with Trump.
Politicians always test legislation through the courts. Both Obama and Biden knowingly passed unconstitutional regulations that were shot down by the courts. This hysteria over DeSantis against the courts is mostly politically driven.
DeSantis would be terrible for our country unless you want our country to be less democratic, less free, and less educated (which is what you and many other right-wingers want). Hungary is the model.
Lindsey's first loyalty to his Dear Leader and if the Donald hates DeSantis so does Lindsey Graham. Lindsey paying homage to his Dear Leader.
DeSantis would be a great pick if you want to reduce voter fraud, increase the legitimacy of our elections, want more rights for parents and the unborn, and end indoctrination of children.
If Hungary is the model ... sign me up! Hungarians love their traditions and refuse to become a vassal of the Military Industrial complex"
