Wanted to give this an “ agree and a funny“. Funny won, but good barbecue will make you do things. There was great. Hated to see them split.

It was a similar experience for 2 white guys sitting at the bar in Ed’s at 11:30pm eating goat with a beer after work. Nobody bothered us because we would be back there early Sat for breakfast, we became regulars for several years until work necessitated a move from Gville. Great time snd memories

Bonham is athletic and has a solid skill set. He played too selfishly and had a low basketball IQ. There was nothing to indicate that while he was at VMI.

Sonny Tillman used to be on a previous board and he told me he went to Pres and Ed's on a regular basis.

I found goat one time at a restaurant here in upstate SC but he closed down. If anyone knows of a place, please let me know

I agree on the skill set. I’m not so sure there was nothing he did at VMI that would indicate his limitations.

That is a major concern for me as it relates to TG….does he have an eye for talent. Based on who he brought in this year, I’m not excited that neither he or the staff have that gift. . Hoping to see improvement.

Yep. What worked in the midmajors for him didn't work against SEC length and athleticism.

as for the portal - I am all for CTG going to Europe and showing us he has connections over there. TONS of talent and kids that want to get a foot in the door, play Div 1 SEC ball and maybe get looked at by NBA scouts eventually (plus get a US degree if it doesn't work out).

Kids over here seem a bit too prima donna and entitled to put in the work it seems, whereas some kids over there have been playing real competitive organized ball for years by the time they're 18, not this crap the AAU churns out each year. You know, guys that can actually shoot and know proper fundamentals. I am convince this is the way forward. Loads and loads of long athletic central and eastern europeans out there that would want to come over

Time to start fishing out of a different pond, get creative

some players just don't adjust to the higher competition as well as others sometimes. Tough to predict. Could be a litany of other factors too, we don't know the whole story.

Seems like he did fine with Kugel and Richard. Not everyone is a home run. If 40% of your kids develop into legitimate contributors given today’s player movement (where you bring in about 5 or so a year), then you are gonna have a very solid 8-man rotation.

Sorry I haven't been on the boards for a while but this needs correcting.
But while yes UGA did beat UNC in the 83 tourney, Wilkins was gone. He was drafted in 82.
Also, someone mentioned James Worthy- he was also gone by the 83 tourney as well.
in the 82 draft Worthy was drafted first and Wilkins 3rd. So neither played in the 83 game.

The Jordan UNC team that was so amazing was 84. They went 14-0 in the ACC I believe.
That team lost to Steve Alford led Indiana in the Sweet 16.

    Good days for college ball.

Thank you Distant. I'm realizing, the older I get, I should quit relying on old memories and check the records.

UNC still lost, with Jordan............not exactly unbeatable now were they?

I'm fine with that list except Bonham, but can live with it. Fudge, Richards and Kugel staying (so far) is huge. Can build a team around those pieces

Alex Fudge was on an upward arc until his concussion, after which he became almost a liability. I'm glad he's still with us, though. With some rehab and a LOT of film study and shooting practice, he can still be a great one, maybe even make it to the NBA. His interior weakside defense can be game-changing.

Definitely. IN 83 the Jordan led Heels lost to UGA (even without Dominique) and in 84 an even better UNC Jordan team lost to Indiana.
But anything can happen in a single elimination tourney, as I think we can all agree.
There's a bit of luck involved with any champion.

Frankly this makes our back-to-back even more impressive, not that we will ever get the credit. (Not directed at you or any GAtor.)

There is an expression that the only person that was able to contain Jordan was Dean Smith...

I lived in Marietta when I was at Georgia Tech and visited a friend there 10 years later around 1990 and I was lost but the occasional street sign, even after driving by my old habitat. No more cows in Alpharetta, too.

Transfers seem to have helped the teams in the final four. Juggling them successfully is the new normal.
The blue bloods with their 5 star freshmen are struggling against mature rosters stocked with hard working experienced transfers jelling at the end of the season.
All new game, has nothing to do with students.
