Republicans starting to sour on DeSantis.

Long way to go, but it's Trump's party now and has been since 2016.

 

Wish he'd layoff his social agenda. I had high hopes.

 

Trump won’t be in his was in 2028.

 

He’ll be the governor until 2027. Easy to remain relevant if he keeps up his awful shit. I think he has a much better chance of winning if he waits.

 

Hard to say. Sometimes politicians have their moment and they have to capitalize on it. 4 years later they may be irrelevant or the tide has turned.

Putting that aside, he’d probably be better to wait. He’s still very young.

If he chooses to run he has to stand up to Trump. Otherwise he looks like a weak chump.

Keep in mind that Scott Walker won three elections for governor of Wisconsin (two regular elections and a recall) before he decided to run for the Republican presidential nomination and in two of them his Democratic opponent was well-funded with out-of-state funds.

Apparently, his campaign tanked after he tried to out-Trump Trump on immigration and walked back his extreme position not unlike DeSantis on Ukraine.

 

I am convinced Democrats and the media want Trump to win the Republican nomination.

 

Rubio is what he's always been. A guy who says all the right things (in the eyes of many Republicans), but is all bark and no bite. He's no party leader, and people caught onto that so they don't talk about him as much.

 

It's The "Little Jebbie" effect.

 

Whenever you read a political headline, ask yourself what conclusion the media is trying to get you to draw from that headline and why they would be doing that.

 

It's a bit perplexing to me. Entirely anecdotal but every Republican I personally talk to is tired of Trump and wants the party to move on. Most are quite happy with DeSantis. I'm not counting out DeSantis yet and not sure what to make of the polls. I started seeing headlines this weekend about DeSantis being in trouble. I see why the MAGA people want to push that narrative. Maybe even some Democrats since the conventional wisdom seems to be that Trump is a better matchup in the general.

 

They're both horrible but if it's between Trump and DeSantis I think I'd take Trump.

 

All correct, and ironically the (seemingly) imminent indictment from New York will only help him in the primaries, and I think Democrats knew that.

Trump thrives when his base perceives that he's being unfairly targeted and when his base is angry. This accomplishes both things.

When he posts/tweets things like "and they want to us to be peaceful," that probably hurts him. But he's always had an incredibly loyal base. Maybe that base is a little smaller now, but if you have say 25% of the Party that will genuinely support you against any other Republican no matter what, that's a lot of power. It doesn't take a majority of the party to change it or influence it, just a strong, vocal, and active 20% or so.

 

As in "an easier win" or "better for the country."
