Were, is the operative word. Let's hope we got faster by subtraction.

Talent level has already seen tremendous improvement. This doesn’t mean that we don’t a long way to go. It just says that last year was the least talented team (top to bottom) we have put on the field in the 50 years that I’ve been following. Even 1979 had more great players than Mullen left us. This isn’t going to magically fix itself in a year. It’s going to take 3-4 years to be elite. It will take that long to get 85 top notch players on the roster

That’s giving that we stack classes. Rebuilds are way harder in the SEC now. Everyone is better

Any team has to stack classes. There’s some good teams but it really doesn’t matter where they are.

It seemed like the defense as the season progressed started picking up the scheme a lot better and they were more aggressive. The problem was our db’s were so slow that they couldn’t stay with a guy on the crossing pattern and we had no pass rush.

If Napier was “concerned” (lame word) about our putrid Special Teams , why didn’t he hire a proven ST coach? We have the money.
    Just bizarre...

Then it is on the coaches to put players in the best position to succeed. I don’t believe our coaches have consistently done that on both sides of the ball since Meyer. Mullen had the offensive side of the ball headed in the right direction, but the defensive side of the ball went backwards. Muschamp had great defenses, but no offense.

Meyer was the last coach here to have all phases of the team working well. Even then, Meyer had to adjust his offense to fit Leak, and then transition to his preferred offense when he had the QB to run it. It is the adjustments, or lack thereof, that concerns me. If you don’t have the horses to run a desired scheme, then why are you running that scheme?

There are many defenses with lesser talent that managed to perform better than our defense did. So lack of talent doesn’t tell the whole story. Scheme plays a part as well.
