I hate that K-State & FAU are matched up this weekend. Those two teams are the reason I’m watching this year.
How long before Dusty May moves on to a power-5 conference? March Madness 2023: FAU’s Dusty May Earning Bonuses and Job Attention – Sportico.com
It's interesting. If the former guy had held on for one more mind numbingly boring season, we might have ended up with Dusty.
Hmmm…..don’t know if we would have. Until this year, Dusty was a bit above.500, and hadn’t had any HC experience at a P5 school. To be clear, that’s not my thoughts about it. It’s just something I’ve seen said so many times, as a reason to by-pass a candidate ( insert Anthony Grant as an example). I wish I saw evidence that someone in the search committee was a “ Real Basketball Person”. Someone who understands what it takes to implement a system, know what type of players you need to run that system & how the recruiting landscape can feed both the vision & that system. I just don’t trust who’s picking the coaches.
It will be hard for other schools to ignore what FAU and he has accomplished this year. Pretty incredible especially considering, in reality, they are considered a program behind UF FSU Miami UCF and Probably USF This team is very good, everyone said when we lost to them and embraced how good that team was very early on during the season.
It's cool, and I am rooting for them somewhat... but one year success can easily be ignored as an outlier if you don't go all the way to the championship and punch your name in the record books. Consistent tournament appearances and deep runs is what establishes a legacy.
I went back to check the UF vs. FAU game thread and there was actually a high degree of quality and realistic commentary. Here were some of the posts, both accurate and not so much so . . . And some of the in-game drama . . . And some of the post game commentary . . .
I remember watch our guards sag on screens to prevent drives to the basket while the FAU guards were draining uncontested threes. And that's not the players calling that.
Well, it may have looked that way, but just watch the kind of space they got against TN. I'm pretty sure TN were not sagging on screens. FAU does a great job of creating open shots on the perimeter.
FAU has a lot of very quick depth. I imagine they will try different guys on Nowell in their attempt to wear him down. Quickness was one of the things we lacked this past year.
Credit to FAU, but Kst missed several key FTs, gave up a bunch of stupid TOs, and Keyontae just was not on his game tonight.
