Agree. Problem is that instead of supporting student athletes, the ncaa turned into a pure money making business while pretending that they cared about education as an excuse for not paying players. Now we have 18 year old unproven players paid by unknowledgeable alumni in a totally transient environment. What can go wrong…

College football is a joke b/c the adults at universities that were supposed to care about trust, respect, education and commitment sold out everything for money.

12 isn’t premier money, it’s kinda average, I don’t keep up with the nfl much anymore. I mess with fantasy for fun and that really only keeps up with stats. Oline doesn’t register there. Established guys in sports do often take less money for many reasons. Some want to win and some like their quality of life outside of sports. Tony Gwynn was one of my favorite players in all of sports, Mr Padre. He played his entire career for about half of what he could of gotten elsewhere. He was asked about it in an interview and he said his kids grew up there as that’s where he wanted his family to live. He said he could manage with a few less millions and he would be fine.

Agree, but it doesn’t seem often we hear those stories. It’s all Lamar Jackson stories. A Bucs LB recently took less to stay, barely a ripple

That’s a big reason that we don’t see teams stay at the top in the nfl. Free agency takes its toll and all 53 guys are important to a roster.

But Lavonte David is 33 years old, doesn't play a premier position, has already made most of the money he's ever going to make, won a Super Bowl, probably doesn't want to have to move his family on a year to year basis, and has a legacy that he could end up in the team's Ring of Honor. Players often do that in these situations. And is it even clear another team was going to offer him more money?

No, that’s true. Heck, maybe he got overpaid? I do think many times players are too invested in making every dime rather than putting themselves in better situations. But that’s just life I guess.

    I would say
    1. For most players their second contract is their one chance to make life-altering money and if some team wants to pay you 20-30% more than the rest of the market, you need to chase that money. If you're good enough to get to a legitimate third contract, then you can pick and choose more.
    2. Other than the couple best and worst organizations, most NFL teams are about the same. They go through good runs and bad runs and it is always hard to predict when a run can start or stop. NFL = Not For Long. Look at Lavonte David. He got drafted into a really bad organization. His first three head coaches were really bad. He didn't make the playoffs until his ninth season. Then he won a Super Bowl.
In a true stroke of fortune, Jawaan Taylor is doing both. He's getting paid more than he likely would have gotten anywhere else and going to a much better organization. I'm interested to see how much of jump he may make on the field.
