You are entirely too emotional When did I say I hated Mertz? It’s like I’m talking to my wife Just because I think Mertz will most likely perform worse than AR doesn’t mean I hate Mertz. I’m looking at the data. Guess what? I think the same as Miller. Im certainly rooting for Mertz to become a “good” QB in CFB (or average in the SEC). I’d love it if he can become pretty good. The data just says it’s not likely And I hate to be the bearer of bad news but acting like Wisconsin is devoid of talent and Florida gushes with talent is hilariously naive. Wisconsin probably beats us the last two years. Mertz is walking into a situation similar to what he had. Nobody is expecting Florida to win 10 games next year. If Mertz was walking into Bama/OSU/UGA then the odds of an AR year is much higher given the increase in talent. He would almost certainly underperform their 2022 QBs though. But I hate to break it to you…Florida isn’t remotely close talent or even scheme wise to Bama or OSU yet. But chill out. More logic, less emotion
The title of this thread is about AR playing poorly Many posters wanted to see Miller or the pedo who can’t be named. Of course AR was disappointing relative to his talent. He is the most talented QB to ever play at Florida. Why he underachieved is a mix of youth/inexperience, bad footwork, Napier being a poor tactician with a weak passing game, poor pass catchers, SEC schedule, etc. But he wasn’t “poor” as this thread says And Wisconsin has been better than Florida during Mertzs tenure. An easy argument can be made that he’s downgrading in situation, not upgrading. I think it’s effectively a wash
What’s delusional is your continued obsession with everything AR. Never seen anything like it on here. You telling someone else they’re entirely too emotional, smh.
Have you watched Wisconsin's offense....ever? They make Addazio's dive-dive-sack-punt offense look innovative and sophisticated. When your offense is predictable, and half of your pass attempts come on 3rd and long, you have an offensive line that isn't good in pass protection, and you have underwhelming talent at receiver, you're not going to light up the stat sheets. There's a reason why they have NEVER had an explosive passing game, other than one year of Russell Wilson (and they still ran the ball more than they threw).
The bold part could also be a description of us last year. We may have started the year with better receivers, but Zipperer missed the 2nd half of the season, Shorter and Henderson missed some games and Fraziars was out a lot. So for Mertz it may be just kinda rearranging the deck chairs. I think this year could be a heavy dose of Montrell and Etienne...NTTIAWWT
Nice try Mrs. Richardson, but the incessant whiner (that would be you) is the emotional one, not the throng of people calling you out for it
What exactly am I whining about? I’m certainly not whining about ARs solid season. I’m just chuckling how people can know so little about football
How is he not? He's bigger than Tebow, as fast as Percy Harvin, with a stronger arm than Grossman. Who's more talented?
Yikes. I get taking the chance you can do something with him as a first rounder, and if he busts it wouldn't be the first time. But to trade up and that happened it would be a bust on 2 first round picks and however many second rounders, that's a lot to give up for basically a lottery ticket. Especially when you figure they probably will be even worse next year and that 1st rounder is the top 5
He said "talented QB," not talented athlete. No one disagrees that AR's athletic talent is otherworldly, but sadly being able to jump high or run fast doesn't necessarily equal a great QB. It takes a lot more to be a great QB and even trying to compare AR's QB talents to Tebow or Grossman (or many other UF QB's) is laughable.
What is talent then? Most people, describe talent as physical characteristics. I didn't hear anyone talking about how talented Ryan Fitzpatrick was bc he aced the Wonderlic. You guys love moving the goal posts to fit your agenda.
What goalposts have been moved? I don't know about most people but my description of QB talent is someone that can execute the offense effectively as designed and if some of his physical attributes contribute to his success then great. Being great at the Wonderlic means you are a great test taker....again not necessarily a great QB. A great QB combines both physical and mental traits in such a combination that they understand the game, their offense, defenses and can physically execute at a high level. I don't have an agenda other than I know what my eyes tell me, and my eyes tell me that including a AR in a conversation of UF QB greats is silly.
Ill take a stab at defining talented. It means being able to control and demonstrate command of your athletic gifts. Think WRs with speed and hands running great routes and catching everything. Qbs with a live arm and mobility directing an offense and making most throws, taking whst is available to consistently moving the chains there by producing results. As stated elsewhere AR is/was an athletically gifted QB project ready for the next team get on the hype carousel
The goalposts of the definition of talent. Talent in football has always been made up predominantly of physical gifts. You keep conflating "talented QB" and "great QB" I never said AR was a great QB. I said he was the most talented. The NFL has scouts and the combine bc of "Talent" If it wasn't a huge factor, then everyone would get drafted based off production. Why is AR in the top 10 of this years draft? TALENT. His physical gifts are landing him in a position that his production and game film never would. That's how talented he is.
He 100% was not the most talented QB ever at Florida. Did he have the most potential? Maybe I’ll buy that, but you can not say talented since it never showed. Just because he could run doesn’t make him the most talented. Other QBs had way more talent throwing the ball than he did.
Disagree nobody says that player is able, they label them talented. Think of innate gift that is beyond athletic. AR is athletic
