CNN)In a monumental ruling Friday, a federal judge ordered Donald Trump attorney Evan Corcoran to provide additional testimony as part of an investigation into the former president's handling of classified documents, a source familiar with the matter told CNN. Corcoran has the potential to become one of the most crucial witnesses in special counsel Jack Smith's criminal investigation into possible mishandling of classified records after the Trump presidency and obstruction of justice. District Judge Beryl Howell said in an order under seal that Justice Department prosecutors have met the threshold for the crime-fraud exception for Corcoran, the source said.
Well, in the latest edition of: MAGA: Making Attorneys Get Attorneys It seems Trump's lawyer in the Stormy Daniel's case, Joe Tacoipina, consulted with Stormy about representing her in the very same matter. Compare and contrast these statements: "You know, obviously there is attorney-client issues. ... The question I was asked was whether I was contacted or asked to represent her. The answer is yes, I was, but I can’t go anything further." JOE TACOPINA ON MARCH 9, 2018 "I can’t really talk about my impressions or any conversations we had because there is an attorney-client privilege that attaches even to a consultation." JOE TACOPINA ON MARCH 16, 2018 With this one: A representative with Tacopina’s law firm told Newsweek on Friday: “There is no conflict, and there was no attorney-client relationship.” Trump lawyer's ethics issue: He initially was approached by Stormy Daniels New York Rule of Professional Conduct 1.18 is applicable: https://nysba.org/app/uploads/2023/...Professional-Conduct-as-amended-6.10.2022.pdf This one's just waiting for someone to file the Bar complaint.
Still think Stormy case is small ball and will rally the base. Now he is calling for protests. Great, just what we need. Any politicians who aren’t ideologues are buttholes
It will make him a stronger “victim”, Now throw in other crazy headlines from Cali…. man, self made talking points. Trump is walking around singing Pat Benatar at this point.
Although I think Trump is as guilty as hell, I think indicting him in the Stormy case would be a big mistake although it seems that the decision has already been made. The case is by no means a slam dunk and the closest analogy was the prosecution of John Edwards for essentially using campaign funds to pay his mistress. It didn't turn out all that well for the government with Edwards being acquitted. If Trump is charged, tried and acquitted it will be a great gift to the Orange one. Of the four potential cases against Trump the Stormy Daniels case is far and away the weakest. The two potential federal cases (the Mar-a-Lago documents case and his role in inciting the January 6th insurrection) and the Georgia election fraud case are much stronger.
'Trump probably committed crimes': Legal experts say judge ordering ex-president's attorney to testify is a 'BFD' Mondaire Jones, the former Democratic U.S. Congressman, an attorney, and a CNN political commentator wrote, "I don’t think people understand how rare it is to pierce the attorney-client privilege using the crime-fraud exception. This is serious stuff." Ryan Goodman, NYU and (former) Harvard professor of law, agrees with CNN's "monumental" classification. He explains, "Corcoran likely has direct evidence relevant to both core crimes under investigation: Willful retention of the documents [and] Obstruction," he tweeted. "He apparently prepared false certification for DOJ. He led DOJ to storage room but refused access to boxes."
That makes two of Trump's lawyers in just the last week, Tacoipina and Corcoran, who will need attorneys. MAGA: Make Attorneys Get Attorneys.
If trump ever actually does face justice, it will likely be for this case. Georgia prosecutors considering racketeering and conspiracy charges in probe of effort to overturn Trump's 2020 loss, source says | CNN Politics
Trump and his family are now accused of failing to disclose nearly $300,000 worth of foreign gifts and to have improperly retained them. The Trump family failed to disclose 117 gifts from foreign governments. Gifts over $415 must be turned over to the National Archives as they become the property of the American people. "After Trump left office, the State Department reported that it was “missing items of a significant value”, finding that a “lack of accurate recordkeeping and appropriate physical security controls contributed to the loss of the gifts.” A later report also said that the president’s office had failed to provide a foreign gift listing for 2020." "Friday’s report from the Oversight Committee noted that the undisclosed gifts create concerns about “potential undue influence,” highlighting that the Trump family failed to report $45,000 worth of gifts from Saudi Arabia, $47,000 worth of gifts from India and $3,400 worth of gifts from China." https://thehill.com/homenews/admini...-100-foreign-gifts-congressional-report-says/
Well, they gave him an enormous (yuge) assortment of neck ties (the finest made in China, I'm hearing) but since they were Trump brand ties, he was able to declare them at wholesale (Art of the Deal pro-tip: never pay retail (or taxes (or contractors))).
Hehehehehe….. ABC News reported on Tuesday evening the federal prosecutors in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office “presented compelling preliminary evidence” that shows former President Donald Trump “knowingly and deliberately” misled his own attorneys regarding his unlawful retention of classified documents. The report is based on a sealed filing written by a former federal judge, which sources described to ABC News. The report notes that U.S. Judge Beryl Howell “wrote last week that prosecutors” in the special counsel’s office made a “prima facie showing that the former president had committed criminal violations.” The report adds that Howell, who stepped down last week as the D.C. District Court’s chief judge, added that “attorney-client privileges invoked by two of his [Trump’s] lawyers could therefore be pierced.” JUST IN: Trump 'Deliberately' Misled His Own Lawyers On Classified Docs, Per Report
Just got way worse for Trump. He appealed that ruling and his attorneys were ordered to file their brief by 2:00 a.m this morning and the government's response by 6:00 a.m. The appellate court has already ruled against Trump. Their temporary stay was lifted. I don't do appellate work, but I have never heard of that short of a briefing schedule...not anything remotely close.
this makes sense as to why the judge required it to be done so fast. I cannot imagine another justifiable reason for demanding 2 am briefs with response due by 6 am Legal expert: 'Bombshell' rulings suggests 'national security' implications in classified documents case (msn.com) "I've never seen anything that quick. It's very hard to know why. I have to say, to me, when I think about what can be a plausible reason – and this is pure speculation – is that there must be something in the papers that gave the judges concern about national security implications, because it's such a short timeframe." "The reason this is a bombshell is you could end up with Evan Corcoran as a key, fundamental witness against Donald Trump in an obstruction of justice case and a false statements case," Weissman adds.
