How can a player find time to study and carry 9 hrs

9 hours is a pretty light load actually. My son was a BA major, thought fall was harder "time wise" than spring.....fall was 5 classes, fall ball, LOTS of conditioning. He had workout at 5:30, breakfast, mandatory study hall, classes, practice, often another workout. The only difference was no travel and free weekend nights in the fall. Spring he generally took 4 classes and it wasn't too bad....coaches will know which classes to avoid that are not athlete/travel friendly. Just be smart and don't load up with the hard classes all at once, spread them out as much as possible.

 

Serious? 9 hrs is too much? Funny. I thought they had to carry 12 hrs. 9 doesn't seem that bad to me. I'm sure he can sneak in a few cake electives during the season. The tougher biz classes don't typically come till ur junior year anyway.

 

I took 12 each semester and worked 30 hours.

Yeah, that's 3 classes. He should take 4, especially as a freshman and soph so he doesn't have to load up later when there are generally harder classes. Unless he wants to knock out some tough stuff in the summer

 

Is he going to a four year college to start with or is he going the JUCO route?

If JUCO—without fail make sure he gets his AA degree there—that way he transfers to the four year college of choice transferring straight into his upper level classes and loses no JUCO class hours. If he doesn’t graduate from JUCO he will definitely lose credit hours when he does transfer.

 

Is he dual enrolled at his HS with college classes?

 

Good for him-the more basic classes he can get out of the way in an environment that he’s familiar with the better off he’ll be.

??? 9 Hours is not considered a full time student . Are you sure ?

 

Some courses have a lab attached that extends to a 4 hour course . Also he may have an online course.

 

Son played college and carried 15 hours. College and athletic department will help with practices set up at times so as to not impact classes.
