Everyone's ancestors did horrible things lmao. Mine came here during the potato famine and we're treated to things like employers posting "Irish need not apply" and housed in slums with no sewers or running water. At a certain point it's time to remember the past, then move on and leave it where it is. Nobody today is liable, accountable or responsible for what their ancestors did and discussing that just serves to grow division, which does make money and buy votes, unfortunately.

I'm incredibly blessed that my ancestors moved on and chose to make something of themselves rather than blame the man or complain about not having generational wealth.

I am always surprised to be reminded about all the people who only know about certain aspects of history due to an apparently perpetual touring of assorted monuments and the associated placards there.

Perhaps they should discuss methodology with the group that somehow stays not only aware of but usually waaay out in front of events like, say, all the ANTIFA crays, that have no government idolatry to teach the masses.

I mean maybe there is a little overlap between those two groups, but clearly can’t be much.

Informative post. That’s the way most societies handled things in the past.

with the negative posts involving both leading Republican candidates for President on this thread seems like 1/2 the folks are anxious to return to the way most societies handled disputes. “…and they are not only mistaken, they’re evil…” ad nauseam.

I don’t know if that sort of extreme is necessary. But it’s pretty absurd this adoration of the confederacy is still going on. Removing this shit should not be controversial.

so the German military should keep the Skull and Swastika on their uniforms so we don’t forget. Your comment is rather deaf to what the neo-Nazi governor in Florida is doing in schools. If understanding the evils of the past is so important you don’t quit teaching them in school.

Just finished reading this “Hitlers American Model”. A lot less commentary and a lot of legal facts presented along with actual statements from the record than I expected. Many of the German AGs thought The US had created the best race based legal system in the world; except they thought it was to harsh. Too harsh for Nazis in 34’ while creating the Prussian laws; Pre-Nuremberg. It was also too illogical; they thought our lack of science deciding race was weird. The especially thought the “one drop” rule used in many states was very unfair and to far. To celebrate their new laws; a group of German AGs went to NY; asked a American legal official about how loosely defined race is in the US; the American replied; that’s by design; gives us more flexibility. Paraphrased. This should most definitely be taught in HS; so we don’t repeat it. Oh; too late the Hispanic Mussolini in Florida is already repeating past evils. Wonder if he’s a direct descendant of the “ Grand Inquisitor”. I have no doubt the right in the US would treat Jesus if he showed, up the same way; “ The Grand Inquisitor” treated him in “ Brothers Karamozv”.

seems to me forbidden fruit is more desireable, ie taking things away makes people want them more.

What a truly all-around terrible post. Discussing our nation's history doesn't "grow division." The division is already there, whether or not you want to talk about it. And trying to compare what Irish people went through to what Black people faced is beyond foolish and tone deaf.

But it's nice that you ended your post with a shot at Black people by pretending as if your ancestors making something of themselves wasn't aided massively by the fact that they were white. I guess I now understand why you think discussing this grows division, because I can't imagine your way of discussing it goes over well.

If you want to buy a Confederate flag for your house or vehicle, have at it. That's your right. Our government and military, however, should not celebrate traitors who fought for slavery.
