IMO, he is a 3 that isn't quite agile enough on defense. If he bulks up enough, he would be playing slower but stouter opponents. I get that too much bulking up can ruin a player's shooting, just that he isn't quite good enough as is.
He is not. He was recently interviewed and stated he is done with coaching- at least in the current environment. Seems not willing to deal with NIL and transfer portal - not pleased with direction of the sport.
The team that we had was really limited talent wise. You pointed out 2 players, lol. We had no PF, had 1 shooter, and had no backup big men. That's not a roster that should win 10+ conference games. There were 4 SEC teams with multiple All-SEC players 1st and 2nd team players, UF wasn't one of them. Reeves won't be recruited by every major program in the country. The current schools that have contacted him reflects a mixed bag of good (Arkansas) and no-named programs (Denver). And if he shoots 35-38% from the floor next year, you probably won't even mention it. He could go in and have a TA like season, but TA is also 24 years old. Could you imagine if Tre Mann was still playing CBK?
The construction of the roster wasn't balanced. Most obviously in our rebounding deficit and weak 3 point shooting.
There is so much to respond to here! who is responsible for us not having a legitimate power forward? Didn’t Folden know that going into the season? He managed to get four players in the Portal. You mean to tell me there wer NO 6’9” 230 pound guys in the portal who could see our dire need? I find that hard to believe. What PF targets do we legitimately have a chance of getting this year out of HS that are top 50? Top 100? I am not here to create animosity. But I’d you think a Jay Wright would not have at least two players of that caliber on our roster right now, you are not thinking rationally. as far a Reeves is concerned he checked the f out about 5-19 games into the season. When he saw that Golden’s selections in the portal were a clear vote of no confidence in him, Lane, and Aberdeen. Why perform on a high level when the person who is coaching you has brought his own people in to “right the ship”. Once again if you can’t see how DEMORALIZING thst must have been for him and many other commits who are experiencing this carousel wheel of personnel change at Florida then we are clearly in different realms of reality.
Did we try to persuade him? NO! He is not the only figure out there who could IMMEDIATELY CHSNGE the talent of this program in one class. The fact that we are giving out internships to unproven commodities is a slight on what Donovan built here. Just because we were blessed to have success with a project in Donovan, does not create a precedent and relying on it has proved to be untrustworthy over the last nine years!
The modus operandi in big business like NCAA coaching seems to be money first, then performance, as if the ADs can buy a championship through the coach. Looks like there's more to it than that.
The guy at PF was Felder. Was Golden supposed to foresee him having issues? He started the first 8 games of the year. Reeves checked out after the first 5 games? He averaged 25 minutes per game the first 3. Why would he check out after that amount of playing time? He couldn't handle being benched vs FSU? Is that the reason why he checked out? That's his issue then and that screams "ME" first mentality. He shot 38% from the field both years here at UF, maybe that's just who he is as a player?
That part of KR is just nonsense. You think he checked out because TG brought in players at his position? I mean he is a freaking guard. He was just the same last year. The incoming transfer didn't have jack to do with KR and his play. KRs situation is all on him. And yeah, if he's so damn sensitive that he gives up because we bring in players to complete the roster, well... That's a problem. Did you really ask why perform on a high level? Isn't that self evident? There are plenty of criticisms to go around about TG but geez this is a stretch.
Back when I was in school I got to where i could do a pretty good 12oz lift with either hand. But it never helped my basketball game.
The current roster without CC is not capable of winning in the SEC. No d, no rebounding and no 3 point shooting on roster. We need a total rebuild. Not an overnight fix
No doubt. We are in the same position as last year. No, strike that, we are worse off than last year because no CC. And without some solid HS recruiting or bringing in players from the portal with multiple years left, it isn't going to change soon. Maybe Condon and the other HS recruit can get some significant time next year. Right now, we have Kugel, richard, bonham, fudge and smitty. I'm only putting smitty there because he is the only big we have. The idea of having to rely on JJ makes me cringe. Obviously the staff is trying to address the 5 but it looks to be either BJ Mack who is a very good player but would be undersized, or the Cohen kid from St. Francis. Cohen has one year left so that's just a stop gap. Mack would be a really good pickup though for the longer term at the 4. The biggest problem is that you can't rely on the portal when they are mainly one year stop gaps. We have to pull talent from the portal that has a couple years. Unfortunately, we look to be in the same position as last year. Far worse if kugel transfers, that's a huge blow. Unless TG pulls a Jerome Tang and can load this roster through the portal, I think we are going to struggle for the next couple of years.
So right now we have at least 6 we are losing 3 to graduation, 3 to transferring -- "normal" attrition # NAME POSITION CL Status 0 Myreon Jones G Gr. Graduating 11 Kyle Lofton G Gr. Graduating 12 Colin Castleton F 5th Graduating 4 Niels Lane G Jr. Transfer 14 Kowacie Reeves G So. Transfer 33 Jason Jitoboh C Sr. Transfer
We also have Aberdeen coming back and Felder is an unknown; plus we have the 2 big kids coming in. College basketball is turning into an annual crap shoot because of the portal. Arkansas had only 2 player’s return, but they are in the Sweet 16.
