Fitting series for April fools day/ weekend. Dont be fooled by the unranked team thats been to as many or more Supers/CWS last 5 years than anyone else in SEC.
I looked at 2022 RPI for the schedule this year vs. last, cancelled out common games (3 Miami vs. 3 Miami - no change, even though away vs. home; 2 Bethune-Cookman last year and 1 this year means a net 1 to last year). Here's what's left (RPI ranks [out of 301]) (2022 vs. 2023) SERIES - Liberty (41) vs Cincinnati (132) SERIES - Georgia State (97) vs. Charleston Southern (216) SERIES - Seton Hall (193) vs. Siena (281*) MIDWEEK (x2) - Stetson (144) vs. FAU (85) MIDWEEK (x2) - FAMU & BCU (212/237) vs. USF (155) SEC SERIES - Arkansas (14), LSU (17#), MsSt (102&) vs. Auburn (6), Ole Miss^ (7), TAMU (8) Bottom Line: non-conference weekend series are really soft this year. Midweek-instate opponents are leveled up. SEC West opponents are likely tougher. Noting, as UF-UAA-PR seems to in every article, "Fans will have plenty of opportunities to cheer on the Gators at Condron Family Ballpark, as 20 of Florida's first-22 games take place at home", I hope our boys don't get complacent if they beat up the little sisters of the poor on the weekend series. The big brothers are coming later in the year... * - an RPI that bad means that a three-day torrential downpour works out better for tournament seeding/hosting than a Gator sweep. Baseball really needs the "a win can't hurt you" adjustment like NCAA-D1 hockey RPI # - '23 LSU > '22 LSU is true, but not relevant & - though we all know they were better than the 102nd best team in the country ^ - and, you know, defending national champs
Sounds like easier non-conference but harder SEC. I am wondering if Ole Miss will be as good. I'm not sure what players they lost but I would think a few extra took advantage of the big year and went pro. Hoping by catching them early (2nd SEC weekend) at their place we win the series and bump our credit rating.
^^ Ole miss lost their captain, Tim Elko and their ace and cws hero DeLucia plus a few other key players. Still, they had a good recruiting class and picked up a couple of guys in the portal. Most have them picked 2 or 3 in the west behind LSU. Swayze can be a tough place to win, but the Gators have a veteran club so I'd expect them to win that series. JMO.
